DAystar install help....

Post by adrenalnjunky »

Geez--what an idiot I must be to not be able to install spring shackles on my own huh?

Actually my problem is that my blazer has a rear anti roll bar on it, and I'm wondering how bad that is going to affect things?

Where normally you could drop the axle until the tires touch with the frame supported, my axle only drops about 2 inches and hangs suspeded by the rear roll bar. I'm going to finish installing them, but does anyone think that the roll bar is going to cause me issues down the line?

i assume you mean trac bar?

if so, it attaches to the axel on the driver side then attaches to the frame on the passenger side....if you have this, then yes, you must loosen it when you drop the axel and the when the axel is back in place you tighten it back up.....

though, i swore you could change the shackles without have to mess with the trac bar...are you sure your shocks arent prohibiting the axel to drop far enough?

If you are talking about a sway bar, I think it would cause a problem. As a minimum you might want to fab some drop brackets for the sway bar, or consider removing it altogether.

ya, the blazers do have a rear sway bar. the zr2 has a trac bar. i dont know what you have but the sway bars stops body roll, i dont see why it wouldnt stop the axel from just dropping....of coures i usually have to see it then understand it

I got it all together--I have pics to show what it looks like.

Stupid Nut on the Daystar is hitting on my Exhaust --may have to get that bent some.

Been wrestling with the torsion bar adjustments -- now they're within 1/8th of the same height on each side measured from the entercap of the wheel to the lip of the wheelwell.

Even with the all season 235/70/15's on it it's starting to look like a 4 wheel drive truck for a change.

Of course I had to bolt up the 31 x 10.5 I have sitting around just to see what it looks like on the truck.

Once I finish putting up tools and such I'll post some pics.

One good thing that came out of it -- the fiancee says she likes how it looks, and I have a green light to put the bodylift on :-)

ya you have a sway bar, get a clothes hanger and see if you can pull your exhaust tip over. and can your spare slide foward anymore, if so, you could put a 31 under there

How many turns did you do on your t-bar crank? Looking good. Can you swap the bolt around on the shackle so it does not touch the tip?

Good Luck,
