Front End Noise

2002 CC has loud front end noise that sounds like a very loud humming (the noise sounds like the noise that you get when you have very large snow tires on dry pavement. except very very loud) I have checked all the threads on wheel bearings and thought it was the driver side bearing that was bad and replaced it but the noise is still there. The noise is loudest when turning right, still loud while going streight and is less when turning to the left, and that is why I replaced the left bearing. I had the tires rotated to see if it was tire noise but it is not. Could it be the right side bearing, even tho the noise is greater while turning right. I have tried grabbing the right tire at 12 and 6 and there is no movement. I have another bearing I can put on the right side but i just wanted to get some other feed back B-4 I change it out. What else could be making all this noise?

The wheel bearing sounds likely.
Also make sure the front differential is not engaged due to s stuck cable. Maybe a dry u-joint? How about rotating the tires to the rear to rule out a bad tire? Alignment problems due to worn parts?

Just tossing out ideas. I think you're on the right track.

I had the front tires moved to the back and had a front end alignment but still the noise was there. I guess I should just put the other bearing on and see what happens. The truck has 121,000 miles on it with the stock bearings.

Welcome to the forum. It wouldn't be the first time that someone guessed the wrong unit bearing assembly was the culprit. At 122K, I'd replace the other one as soon as funds were available or crank the audio level upa tad higher.

Welcome aboard. First time one of my front hub bearings went out it sounded like the opposite side also. Later I discovered it was both sides even though replacing the first one had little effect on the noise. The first one was rough and bad so I didn't just replace a good one by mistake. Needed em both. BTW they went out at about 80k IIRC correctly.

I'm going to replace the other bearing this weekend. Is there a easier way then a chisel to split the old bearing form the housing? The whole job was not very hard except for the time it took to get the old bearing/hib from the housing.

I rented a hub puller from my local parts store. It makes fast work of pulling the hub.

Just put on the other bearing/hub and the noise has stopped. I now can turn back down the radio while driving. Words of wisdom: don't always believe in the the theory of if you turn your wheels while driving to the right and the bearing noise is louder that it is your left bearing that is bad, it was the right side bearing that was bad on my truck.
