Rock Crawler Wheels

Post by NTXCrew »

To those of you who have the black Rock Crawler wheels, what size & backspacing are you running and with what tire/size? Do you still like your wheels? I think they look agressive and they're darn cheap, too. I found some discussions on older pages now.

well, me and john are the only one who i know that have them.

he's running 15x7 with 3.5" of bs. he had 31x10.5 x terrain pro comp. he rubbed pretty bad and had to chop the fender

i am runnin 15x8 with 5" of bs. with 31x10.5 BFG at's. this tire is actually 30.5" tall

i also have cranked my tbars and have a 2"BL. and they rub like a mofo. i had to cut my fenders just to do normal daily driving. if i offroad hard or load the truck down, they will rub.

if you call 4wp, you have to special order the wheels. they are made by v-teck. they are the only company that will do custom BS.

my suggestion would be to run 15x7 with 5.5" of bs. thats what i am about to buy as soon as i sell my wheels

Thanks! So, do you think the 15x7 wheels will hold a 31" BFG AT or MT without saggy sidewalls? Will that even be an issue? I know BFG has redesigned them (the sidewalls - 3 ply now), am I right?

Good luck finding 15x7 and 5.5 bs. I found one, but don't like them.

The closest I've found that I like(but may rub still) is the Axis Revolution wheels. 15x7.5 but with a 4.5backspace(roughly 2.25" more out).

Do you think 2.25" more backspacing is too much? 2" BS rubs for hobie but I plan on 30" tires(aka probably a true 29.5").

It sounds like if you want wider aftermarket rims, you need a 5" lift. :( With the great rebates now, I wonder if I should look at a 2500HD.......

Good Luck,

you can get my black rock crawler rim in what ever size you want.

so i am going to get 15x7 with 5.5" of bs

and yes, 7" is fine for a 31x10.5......that is what is stock on the zr2

and con, 4.5" of bs on a 7" rim will be cutting real close on a 30x9.5" tire. probably be the same as 31's on a 5.5" of bs...know what i mean...just guess here

I think I know, but when we're talking about backspacing, what demension of the wheel are we talking about exactly?

Backspacing is the distance from the inside edge of the rim to the inside of the middle section where the lug holes are. Basically when the rim is sitting on its face, lay a straightedge across the wheel and measure down from that straightedge to the back of the mouting holes section.

The more backspacing, the more "flat faced" a wheel is.

I just can't justify it now though, since I got a setup that works.

I still will use stock rims, cause I will go with 33x10.5x15 vice the usual 12.5 width. I've seen the size on an old Toyota, they look sweet. Also seen them on Jeeps.

really, who makes a tire like that?

and why not spring for the wider rim? esp, when you go to air down to 12 lbs. of pressure?

my next rim will have beadlocks

now way, hugh, i guess i havent ever really looked for it.

i tell you what, that will help big time with our trucks.

our wheel wells are so small, every inch you go wider just makes the rubbing all that worse

Do you think the width makes things more difficult than the height?

no i would say they are evenly matched to a point, obviously.

see, i have the same 31's that other crew's have but i rub like hell n my fender where they only rub on thier frame, ocuz i am on 8" rims which push the tire wider and i pushed the tire out with less backspacing.

BFG and Super Swamper makes that size, Super Swamper also makes 34's in a 10.5 width.

Narrow has it's benifits over wide. I just want to gain clearance and circumference, not width.

Also, I've never had a need for bead locks, not yet anyhow.

come out here and you will. and also, haveing such a narrow wheel on a tall tire, it would seem to slip off the wheel pretty easily since there will be so much side wall....

I actually prefer a narrower rim for airing down. You can maintain the foot print at lower pressures, and I feel it holds the bead better too. I've never needed to go lower than 20 lbs and get plenty of tire flex.

Seems to me like it would be easier to slip a bead on the wider rims, but having never lost a bead I wouldn't know.

Well except for the Turbid Necromancer , but that was due to one of the tubes going flat.
