Those who have gap guards
Did you attach them to the frame on the bottom or do they just hang down? If so do they flap from wind etc.? I just bought some of the rubber for stairs and I think I'll make the guards 12 inches wide but wondering if they need to be that wide also.

That makes me think I could of saved $5 but oh well. I could of cut a 12 inch wide piece in half. They were long enough. I just wondered if they needed to be longer to hang down with enough material so they wouldn't flap etc...

Mine are a little different than most. At the front and rear of the wells mine bolt under the support rods. The material is attached with xmas tree fasteners to the pinch weld at the bottom of the inner fender, all the way around. Against the frame and behind the wheel the guard is probably only 4" long. It then curves down to the fenders at the ends. The idea is to help keep the muck in the well rather than built up in the fenders and bumper.
I did have a problem with one of the flaps rubbing a tire, soon after installation. All that was needed was to trim it up to the afore mentioned 4".
Mine are made from a roll of thin belting that was military surplus, I believe. It is 4' wide and WAS a 50' roll. I can't believe it is almost gone Many tool boxes , gap guards and other projects have used up that resource.

I was thinking of doing the same of making it curve around the wheel well but I figured gm only put a guard on the side by the fuel tank so I am just going to make it straight across the flange at the pinch weld on both sides.HenryJ wrote:Mine are a little different than most. That helps me knowing that yours are about 4" wide though. Thanks again HJ, I always look forward to your knowledge as well as everybody elses. I'm going mod crazy lately. I've been waiting for spring.

The only reason I knew to make them myself was by reading what other people have done. I'm waiting for the day though to contribute my ideas. I first need to get through these things though.killian96ss wrote:Ace, at least you are smart enough to make your own. I paid way too much for the PA Gap Guards. They do fit nice, but I could have made nicer ones myself.
