3.73 and 31's

Post by ace »

Just want to know if anyone experiences the in and out shifting in the upper gears with this combo. I would suspect not because this is the combo on the ZR2's but just want to know.

Even the stock ZR2's do it.
My friend with the Highrider had the same issue with the transmission "searching" on an uphill grade. He also was pretty disappointed in the mushy shifts.

The HPPIII is one answer to the issue.
I haven't had the problem since programming the shift firmness, and shift points.

A shift kit might be another solution, as would the B&M shift improver and perhaps the TCC switch.

I forgot about the TCC mod. Did you ever have it set any codes or anything? I did a similar mod (except I spliced the wire at the tranny connector) on both my '89 Grand Am and my first Blazer and plan to do it on my present Blazer but pre=OBDII computers don't check for stuff like that. How about the ABS since the purple wire seems to have something to do with that too?

Replied in the TCC thread-HJ

Yea, I did. I fixed it by changing the shift points with the hppIII.

Considering that a lot of us have them I would say they work. Not going to boost your power through the roof, but adds a few horses plus gives you the option of adding firmer shifts (probably the most noticeable "gain" about it) and changing gear ratios, tire sizes, etc. I bought mine to firm up shifts and allow me to adjust when I get bigger tires...any horsepower gain is just added frosting on the cake. I do think it helped my mileage a bit but I also added it along with a bunch of other mods (all at the same time) so whether it helped or the combination helped (more likely the case) one will never know for sure. Don't buy it for horsepower gains though...you will be disappointed, but for everything else it is unbeatable!!

Yeah...my Main concern is the sluggish shifting that I'm getting...and I hear this 'll fix that right up.

It should you can make several adjustments to each gear change

I took mine off for a week and got 15.6MPG then put it back on this week and got 17.38MPG so there are some advantages to it
