Hey Fellas...Got Some Q's about lifts
OK, I have been searching for lifts for a while now and the general answer is "except ZR-5". I see most of you like the SL line and have the six stacked up under your beasts. My question is... OK it obviously works in the ZR-5 Sonoma, buuuutttttt what mods does it take. A place to do it and the tools are not a problem, I just want to make sure i get the right kit I guess.
I have right around 3g's to throw at this pavement hugger to get it standin taller than me. I have the 3.73's and I am intending on 31's or 32's (yes I have read the info on tire sizes) but that's not a big deal to me...I got the 10%over cost +tax hookup. So if yall don't mind giving me some input on the SL kit and my truck I would be mighty obliged.
There isn't many places to go off-road here in MN, so I think I will just make my own roads. lord knows its hard enough just to find anybody up here that knows runnin water aint just for the rich folk, let alone find someone who says yeah lets go wheelin'. Anyway... I started rantin.
....Anybody live in MN...... LOL
I am from IL and moved to TX for a while and did the ARMY thing down there where North Fort Hood has some of the best trails I have ever driven on. I had a 99 S-10 (2X4 with a 4 banger) and was amazed at the capabilities of the little truck. Oh yeah, I got stories... like 5 feet of air and 3 to 6 foot water crossings. Any way a family meant four doors and the ZR-5 was the comprimise.
Man, can I blab?
Thanks fellas.

I think it is "...except ZR2"RocK wrote:...been searching for lifts for a while now and the general answer is "except ZR-5"...
The RPO ZR5 option is merely an appearance package. Cosmetics only, nothing that will effect the suspension.
Consensus at this point seems to be that the F.I.T. 6" Superlift is the suspension lift to get. A search for Superlift should yield tons of answers.
Welcome
Oh, and add a few bucks to that cash you have for the 4.10 gears if you want to run the 32's.

Lived in Texas for a while, Huh? Well, THAT would explain that "southern accent" I detected in your message! I know noboby from MN or IL talks like that!RocK wrote:I am from IL and moved to TX for a while and did the ARMY thing down there where North Fort Hood has some of the best trails I have ever driven on.
Welcome to the site RocK!
Rock wlelcome!
The lift that you are going to want is slf776, Jeggers has a zr5 and he just did his install. That's who you want to talk to! There are different lift packages, for instance my lift came with the upgraded bilstien shocks but no skid plate part#slf3144 or steering stabilizer shock part#slf92055. Another thing to concider also is a body lift. Superlift suggest 33,s I went with 31,s and am starting to have tire rubbing issues on the back of the front fender when turning into driveways or dips. So know I need to do a
BL. Other then that it's a great lift, It keeps your ride the same as stock.

sl kit fit my zr5 just fine. I am running 32" tires and i could use gears but i am out of funds
so far so good my torsion bars are a little high waiting to see if they settle, but truck rides great. oh and i haven't hooked up the front drive shaft so have not been off road yet.

Heres a link for a picture of the sl6 link
It seems Summit has the best price right now for the complete lift skid plate and all.

Here are the heights specs on my truck. Back bumper from ground to bottom of bumper 24 inches. Rear wheel well, from ground to top of wheel well 40 1/2 inches. Front wheel well, from ground to top of wheel well 40 1/2 inches. Front bumper, from ground to bottom of bumper 28 inches. Remember I do not have a body lift and it does seem like my truck has settled a half inch or so since I got my lift installed.

Rock, I got my kit from summit it was a good price, but they don't stock it so get it drop shipped from superlift, and I would have them call superlift to get you a good time frame. before you wait three months like me.

Thanks for all the input fellas. I was really getting frustrated with the stuff like this...
http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/GM_S10_4wd.htm
where at the top it says "will not fit... shocks not included." ??
Anyway my local bumper to bumper (parts store) quoted me 2100 for skids, kit and shocks. Did yall have to pay shipping on the summit order or just the 9.00 handling?
By the way I do have one of the most messed up accents anybody has ever heard. I have the TX draw and the MN " o " thing and they just kinda go together. LOL you should hear people up here make fun. Oh well I usually just fall back on the new concept of electricity and they get real quiet.
Anyway I knew that the ZR-5 Package was just appearence and that is the main reason for my confusion. (See what I mean about rambling) But seriously thanks for all the help fellas I will get some pics, but at the moment she is stock and I think yall know what that looks like.

Mind if I get some specs?
Or if anybody else knows....Please don't say stock

Thanks in advance.

i'm also about 53 1/4" to the bottom of my mirrors with a 6in superlift and 2 in body lift....i finally got off my lazy butt and got the body lift on last week so now i'm happy and i don't rub any more. i was also able to crank the torsion back down so the truck is setting level instead of nose high. oh also i've got 6,000 miles on the superlift now and no trouble yet.

Yes, them shackles really do make a difference. They put a nice rake to the truck. I have no idea what the measurment is to my mirrors, I will have to check for you tomorrow or something. Or you can just measure from the bottom of your cab to the mirrors, and add 30", and that is what mine is.

measure your ground clearance from the ground to the bottom of your rear diff. cover and the front diff. I wanna know if you picked up much ground clearance.

thanks for asking that question, went out to measure and noticed a slight amount of gear oil at the bottom of my differential. I was like, "what the heck?" so I backed it up on some ramps and started checking bolt tightness, found two bolts that were a full turn loose, two bolts that were a half turn loose and the rest were about 1/4 turn loose. Anyways, got them tightened up, hope that stops the leak. Oh and by the way don't want to dissapoint you but I did measure to the bottom of my differential 9 1/4 inches.Jeff024 wrote:measure your ground clearance from the ground to the bottom of your rear diff

im at the ground clearnce i am because of tires. but my next tire will be a 33 0r maybe even a 32. however my ground clearence at the front and middle are pretty good. 17 inches in the middle is alot and i could have more to i havent used the relocators to there full potential yet. when i go wheeling i never bottom out. and i have never hit any of the diffs. my skidz take all the abuse up front though
yah 1700 bucks is alot for only 1 more inch or so at the diff but diff clearence is only based on tire size. when you do the lift then do some relocators you get alot of clearence under there. so its not all bad and in terms of dollars if your only spending 1700 consider yourself lucky where i live our lifts are about 5 grand install through a supplier. the new superlift here is like 4 tousand something for just the kit at one of our local shops

Jeggers, you have Tbar relocaters, it came with your lift kit. Its the brackets you bolted to the frame under the driver and passenger door that say superlift in chrome. Quite sleek and sexy if you ask me.

What you are refering to is the drop brackets for the t-bar crossmember.
Relocators raise this back up. Check the "link" above.
