Superlift skidplate Question

Post by Steve2003 »

I ordered the sl skidplate last week from the local lift shop and they asked me if I wanted it installed. They said installation was only 40$ I,m thinking OK 40$ sure! Then they said a allighnment is required, after the install, they showed me the book and sure enough that's what superlift says. I read a thread somewhere on here that you have to remove the skidplate to change the oil filter/ oil. Does that mean every time I need to change the oil I have to get a allighnment :!: Anyone who has the 6sl with the sl skidplate, your feedback would be appreciated.

I hope that's not the case. I put a 100$ deposit down for the skidplate so I own it know! They charge 85$ for a allignment!

Just cut a square whole in the skid play and put a door there, so you dont have to take the skid plate off every time...

Someone has that new oil, i forgot who, they say it lasts for like 50,000 miles....

Only thing I can't make any sense out of is even though your oil lasts that long, your oil filter will not, so either way, after 3,000 you need to change the oil....

I'm curious what is involved in the skid plate install that you'd need to get realigned after. I guess it's possible. But it sounds like all the more reason to go with one of bubaloo1983's plates with the oil door.

Just got off the phone with SoCal lifts and the guy I talked to said somebody read the foot notes wrong. He doesn't think it requires a allighnment after install. He's on the phone with superlift and is going to call me back. Barch, the plate bolts on to the crossmember.

unless it's excessively heavy, I can't see that effecting alignment.

40$ that"s nothing, a drop in the bucket! My time is worth more then that!
Especially dealing with superlift! After spending 2hrs on the phone with SoCal super trucks who got me the skidplate and Gary's Sport Truck, who installed my lift, It appears superlift forgot a few bolts when they shipped my lift. So Gary's made do with what they had :x not knowing I might just wan't to install a skidplate :!: now I need 2 socket head bolts 14mm x 110 mm according to superlift! to get my skidplate to mount up. :x

The only one that screwed me was superlift and the shop that lifted my truck for not making sure they used the correct bolts on the cross member. There are three mounts for the skid plate and four bolts that connect the skidplate to the mounts. Two brackets are for the front that connect to the frame, two bolts each. One crossbar mount that connects to the crossmember, two crossmember bolts, thats the problem. The bolts the lift shop used for the crossmember will not fit the crossbar mount. According to superlift I need to 14x110 sockethead bolts, which is not easy to find! I know this to be fact as I tried to mount it last night, THEY DO NOT FIT! anyone that has installed the same lift that I have with the skidplate will understand what I'm talking about.

Just want to make one thing clear, I don't want to give SoCal supertrucks a bad rap and have anyone thinking they screw people. When I went yesterday afternoon to pick up my skid the supervisor felt bad about one of his employee's reading the footnotes wrong so he and a mechanic came out to the parking lot to help me mount the skid plate and thats when they noticed the problem with the crossmember bolts. They even offered to order them from superlift for me at no charge and it wasn't their bad.

:D ok i have the skid, looks like you need to remove it every time you change the oil only six bolts (i plan on welding the nuts to the mounts)
bubaloo1983 build one with a door, the stock wont fit now, the front crossmember bolts to those holes in the stock front crossmember, the skid mounts to a bracket that mounts to the new LCA hard ware that is why you need the 110mm bolts, if you look at the instuctsions for the lift you should of gotten the 110 mm bolts withe the lift kit, but i know jeffc and i and looks like steve2003 all got 100mm bolts , i called superlift and the mailed me the bolts (ya postal  10 days) like i said before i got the skid from summit with the lift for the same price as some off you are getting just the lift, so i will use it. over all the kit looks good sofar

skid plate...

Post by KCustom »

You will not need and alignment if you put on a skid plate.....and I would remove the plate when you change the oil. it is only four bolts and can be done in about 15 mins......

Just wondering, some people have been saying you might have sold your CC because of problems with the SL 6, we all saw it on Ebay, just wondering, can you give any solid info regarding the SL 6 lift, any pro's or con's?
