Rims and Tires for fun and functionality.
I was wondering how a set of 30 inch bfg m/t's and some rock krawler rims, all black would do for my truck ,(I like marks pewter/black setup...) I want some set up that looks aggressive and is still functional for both on and off road. Here are some pics of my truck after some light mud foolery. The stock tires just spin out like mad in this florida mud, it took some extensive rocking to escape the pits, kinda explains the mud on the hood....

It would look great...but I'm biased.
You can probably get some better tires than BFG M/T's though. Head over to www.tirerack.com and do some research. There's some decent M/T tires out there for fairly cheap (if price is an issue). I wouldn't recommend the Dunlop Mud Rovers though. Mine have gotten out of round or something over the last year or so and are starting to bug me with the constant vibration. They're almost impossible to balance anymore too. I got some Wrangler MT/R's a couple days ago that I'll probably have put on in a couple weeks that will hopefully be better.

I have 31" Wrangler MT/R's on my crew and I am very happy with them. If you regularly read 4x4 mags, then you will notice that most of the trucks (mainly rockcrawlers) have these tires and for good reason. The traction is excellent, and they have the best puncture resistance of any tire I have seen or used. I have run mine as low as 9psi with no problems.AZS10Crew wrote:I got some Wrangler MT/R's a couple days ago that I'll probably have put on in a couple weeks that will hopefully be better.

I've been looking into getting the Wrangler MT/r's as well. I really like the tread pattern. I don't get to go off road really and I never have been rock climbing but I love the aggresive look of these tires! Do they last? That is the only question I have.
BTW anyone know if I can get away with 30" on stock sized rims without the TB or BL?

Right now I have 15k on them and they have about 60% of the tread left. My CC is a daily driver and they do good on the road, but they do have a slight hum to them. Of coarse all mud tires hum on the pavement. You might have problems with 30" tires and no BL or T-bar crank, but maybe someone else here has already tried this and can help.Pauleo wrote:I've been looking into getting the Wrangler MT/r's as well. I really want to do the BL but everyone around me has told me not to fool with the TB. They say it will really screw up the way everything is aligned and screw up the CV's. I know that I would have to do the alignment afterwards. I just don't know if it's really good to be fooling with kind of stuff considering I'm not much of a mechanic if I did mess something up down the road.
Anyway, back on topic, I wanna shoot for the 30" Wrangler MT/R's if I can squeeze `em in the wheel wells. My rims aren't the factory ones, but they are supposed to be stock sized with the same backspacing and all. I can't remember all the specifics on them.

I have the 2" BL and a 3/4" T-bar crank, and the only problem I've had is a grease leak on one of the CV axles. This was fixed under warranty. As long as you don't exceed the Z-height specs then you will be ok. After a T-bar crank you will need an alignment.Pauleo wrote:I really want to do the BL but everyone around me has told me not to fool with the TB. You will need to know the specs on your aftermarket rims in order for any of this to work correctly. My rims aren't the factory ones, but they are supposed to be stock sized with the same backspacing and all. I can't remember all the specifics on them.

I doubt you'll get any decent mileage out of Mickey Thompson tires. Most guys I knew with Super Swampers or Mickeys only got around 15K-20K miles out of them. But they only drove their rigs a couple weekends a month. I would stick with the regular manufacturers (Goodyear, BFG, Firestone, Kumho, Yokohama, etc.) rather than the specialty manufacturers unless you're planning on having a dedicated trail rig or a huge lift that requires 35"+ tires.DiagnosisDirt wrote:what about a mickey thompson tire ?
