New Revo's are on! Have pictures.

Post by kf6kmx »

Ok, new Revos came in today and were installed on the way home from work.. They look better than I expected, really help fill up the fenders better than the stock Laredo's that were on it.

The stock Laredos were apparently worse than anyone expected.. Either they were getting soft on the sidewall, or those things have terrible sidewalls!

At the tire shop, someone had left a Tahoe parked in the way to get to the rack, so they had me pull in slightly sideways and then turn.. The front drivers side tire bumped the edge of the lift rack (NOT sharp.. typical lift arm, rounded metal, actually more gentle than a typical rock offroad).. as soon as the tire touched it he tire blew the sidewall! There was a hole in the tire big enough to stick 3 fingers through.. We looked at the other tires, and you can take your hand and press the sidealls in.. they feel softer than they should (at least softer than any truck tires I've ever had before! The Revos have a harder sidewall like I'm used to.
Told him when he was moutning the Revos, "I guess its a good thing I didnt go off roading much and hit ANY rocks with those..." (and I have pictures of my truck with the front tire sitting on rocks!)..Those tires apparently were just waiting to go out..
I found a litsintg showing those as 'All Season' truck tires, and not the 'All Terrain ' that they claimed when I asked about them at the dealer when I bought the truck.. I questioned the fact that they didnt look like a 4x4 tire to me at all.

8) 8) 8) Good deal Scott. I think you will be very pleased with them. I mounted mine white letter out. Kind of like the letters out on the darker color truck.
Please let me know if you have any drop in MPG with the new tires.

Looks 8)

I'm pretty sure there will be some incorrect mileage figures if those are the 30's.

30's werent available (on "unknown duration backorder".. )
These are close. They are 235 75R15 They are a good inch bigger than the stock Laredos sitting side by side without truck weight on them..

As far as mileage #'s, it should be right, or even more right than before.. I have the GPS in my truck, on the Laredos I was about 1.5 MPH under on the speedo (doing 60.0 on GPS, 58 to 59 on speedo).. With these tires its about 1mph over (60 GPS now 61 speedo).
So apparently the Laredos were slightly under the size the factory set the truck for and these are just a hair bigger.. Basically the factory screwed up the calibration :)

Thanks

We set them by the truck with the white out, then the black out.. with my truck's color and the rims they looked '8) est' with the blackwall.. especialy with the engraved sidewalls on these.. the friend who owns the tires hop took one look and said "man, those are BUSY sidewalls on there" ;)

I almost wonder if my mileage might go UP slightly.. these are much stiffer sidewalls, and the tire doesnt 'compress' onto the ground as much.. might have a lower rolling resistance than the Laredo's that were on here.

When I got mine, 30's would have been a special order. They had 235/75 in stock.

What size Loredo's did you have? And why did it have Loredo's? I thought they all came with the Goodyear crap. maybe the dealer did a switcheroo.

Because you got a bigger tire than you had before, any change in milage you have won't be an accurate comparison to the milage problems I am having since I got mine.

P235 70R15 Laredo AWR tires..
They say right on them "All Season" not All Terain.. I asked the dealer when I bought it, becuase they "didnt look like a 4x4 tire" and they swore that is what the factory sent on the truck.. I almost think that they had a shortage the day my truck was built and substituted for the goodyears on this truck... every other S10 4x4 I've seen had Good(bad)Year tires mounted on the dealer lot.. And the 2WD had Laredo tires...

Well, the comparison should be somewhat valid in does my mileage go down or changedramatically in either direction..
I'm going to try and remember this weekend to decode my RPO numbers and see which gears I have also.

You're not as far off as mine was :D Mine was off 3mph with stock tires and stock calibration  I thought I was getting over 20 mpg highway mileage regularly :!:

P235 70R15 is the stock tire size, the 235/75-15's ore the optional offroad tires included most times with the 3.73 gears and G80 govloc.

I would bet you have the 3.42 gears, so those tires are a very good choice for your final ratio :D

I'm thinking the dealer ordered the truck with the upgrade tires, then either took them off, or never put them on.. Since the calibration seemed to be for the bigger tires but had the smaller ones on it..

Forgot to get the RPO numbers off the truck.. Will try to remember to tomorrow :)
