Welcome to the forum. I'm a newbie but, you can get good info here and research a bunch of topics. I found out alot through the "search" function.
If you're towing or hauling a lot of wgt then AAL. Otherwise go with a good shackle (Daystars and not Advance Auto type). Some report that shackles make the truck handle "loose" . I couldn't detect any diffrence after the daystar install. The are stout!.
Personally I plan on AAL in addition to my daystars after my BL.

It depends on what you are going to do with it.Mr.ZR5 wrote:so for the back am i better off doing the aal or shackles
Shackles or Leaf Springs
AZS10Crew wrote:With shackles you'll have better flex. Adding a leaf spring will make the rear end stiffer which means less flex.
HenryJ wrote:Shackles will indeed allow MORE flex, but that can be a bad thing if it is side to side.
Ask Hobie about the rubbed drive shaft on his fuel tank shield.
Going to a steel shaft or not adding the gas tank shield are options.
I'm NOT saying shackles are bad, but there are concequences to any mod.
daystar? = lift? , Questions about add a leaf and t-bar crank ,HenryJ wrote: The advantage to adding multiple leaves , as opposed to one heavy add-a-leaf is that in order to achieve the desired lift in a single leaf they use a hard heavily arched spring. not only does this apply uneven forces on the factory springs concentrating the load at one point on the stock springs, they are prone to breakage when flexed hard. In order to keep prices low they usually only build a 2.25" leaf , so it will fit anything from imports to domestics and for a large age range. Our spring pack is 2.5".
By using the three leaf kit, the spring rate is progressive and evenly distributed as load increases. Also allowing for better ride characteristics.
The disadvantage is that you are buying six leaves.

I used to have shackles and an add a leaf
both have some consequences
with the shackles my driveshaft rubs the tank shield on really hard left turns
and with the aal every time I hit a speedbump no matter the speed EVERYTHING in the back of my car goes airborne, it is pretty rough
