Want my 2001 Crew to look like a ZR2.

Post by heyspike »

Hello all, What a great web site. I stumbled across it the other night surfing. I see Superlifts coming out with a 6'' incher. But I think that will be too much for me. I don't do any wheeling except for hunting. I e-mailed AIM industries and Josh, recommended a 3 inch spindle lift? and adda leafs for the rear. Any comments on these. My ultimate goal is to have the truck sit more like a ZR2 and add some bigger tires.
Thanks for the great site!
John.

I think HenryJ's been going for the same look. He'll probably post his suspension mods for you in great detail if you ask him real nicely. :D

A spindle lift applies to a 2wd. It is not usually an option for a 4wd.

IMO, the only option less than the 5" TrailMaster lift is a PA 2" body lift.

A 2" body lift and 31" tires will put you the same height as a ZR2, add 1.25" spacers on the front, 2" spacers for the rear and you are real close for width.

Next thing is the flares. I'd wait to see if the Gross cut-out flares materialize.

Est. Cost: Flares $400 , Lift $200, Spacers $170 , Tires $450

Est. Total: $1220 + installation

Check the link in my signature for my truck

Mine sits the same height as a ZR2. I've got 30x9.5" tires, 3" BL, 1" t-bar crank, and 1.5" lift rear shackles. No fender flares though. :?

HenryJ and AZS10Crew--Nice trucks, that's what I'm looking for.
I think I'll start with the Daystar shackles, the add the 2" PA Lift. Can I use the same wheels for the bigger tires? Or is that asking too much :?:
I wish they had a 2.5-3" suspension lift out there!
Thanks,
John.

There's a thread from Code3 aking the same stuff out there.

I see you had some special springs made up for the rear, I was thinking of going with the Daystar Shackles, Your Opinion?

Shackles or Leaf Springs
Shackles offer an increase in ride height, and more articulation while retaining the stock ride characteristics. However they do not do well under side loads, or heavy weights since they can over flex the spring pack if the suspension limiter (snubber) is not dropped to prevent negative arching.

Boise SpringWorks rear spring kit is a multiple leaf kit, that is matched to the crew cab spring pack.
IMO, this is a better way to prevent the sag when loading , or towing. You don't have to worry about sway when turning, and since the multiple leaves are progressive, the ride is close to stock.

There is a little more information in some other threads, but that should give you an idea :D

Basically if you load it heavy or tow: springs

For articulation and light use : shackles
