Might be worth refreshing your memory with these threads:quickbiker wrote:I know someone knows.

bringing this thread back from the past ....
I'm looking at swapping gearing in my truck to either 3.73 or 4.10 --
Looking at Precision Gear's website - http://www.precisiongear.com/gmring.htm They make a 4.11 for the IFS, but a 4.10 for the rear. I know that different people callthe same ratio different things, (eg 4.105) Why would they call one a .11 , and the rear a .10? If I go with these would I be ok?
Also, looking at their RPM calculator,
http://www.precisiongear.com/pgtech_rpm.htm
My 3.42's on a 28 inch tall tire runs 2155RPM in overdrive at 75 mph. (Assuming a 1:1 ratio)
Swap numbers to a 31 inch tall tire, and 3.73's and you get 2122 RPM's - seems like the closest Ican get to stock settings. Theoretically I could swap tires and gears and my PCM wouldn't need to be reprogrammed for my speedometer to be correct (or close enough.)
and dropping to the 4.10's and 33's gives a 2192 RPM figure at 75 mph. [/url]

My vote goes to the 4.10 and 31". It is nearly the same as the 3.73/29" tire combo , which is the best final ratio ,IMO.adrenalnjunky wrote:I'm looking at swapping gearing in my truck to either 3.73 or 4.10 --
Don't forget that there are calculators on our website too : S-10Crewcab.com CalculatorsLooking at Precision Gear's website - http://www.precisiongear.com/gmring.htm...Also, looking at their RPM calculator,http://www.precisiongear.com/pgtech_rpm.htm...(Assuming a 1:1 ratio)...
And Detailed specifications which show that 3rd is 1:1 , overdrive is .70

Ok--but does anyone have a good explanation why their 7.25 ring is labeled a 4.11, and their 10 bolt 7.625 is listed as a 4.10 or does it make any difference?

I was talking to a guy I know about switching gears and he said the front's are 4.11 so they are a little more than the rear so the front is pulling in 4wd and not being pushed. That was his theory.
In my opinion that is soo little of a difference that it wouldnt matter.

The theory sounds good but it is backwards with those ratios. the 4.10 is faster than the 4.11, so the rear would be pushing the front.coffeedrnkr wrote:...the front's are 4.11 so they are a little more than the rear so the front is pulling in 4wd and not being pushed. That was his theory.
That would not be really helpful, but it is very little difference.

gears
I had 4.11 in the rear and 4.10 in the front of my 95 Blazer....I was told the same theory...front pulls more.
