Check your gas cap first off
DTC P0442
Description
The evaporative emission (EVAP) small leak test applies vacuum to the EVAP system and monitors vacuum decay. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal in order to determine the vacuum decay rate. At an appropriate time, the control module turns the EVAP canister purge valve ON, open, and the EVAP vent valve ON, closed. This allows the engine to draw a vacuum on the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module turns the purge valve OFF, closed, sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine EVAP system vacuum decay. If the system detects a leak larger than a calibrated amount, DTC P0442 will set.
Conditions for Running the DTC
DTCs P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0121, P0122, P0123, P0125, P0443, P0449, P0452, P0453, P1112, P1114, P1115, P1121, or P1122 are not set.
The ignition voltage is between 10-18 volts.
The barometric pressure (BARO) is more than 75 kPa.
The fuel level is between 15-85 percent.
The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is between 4-30°C (39-86°F).
The intake air temperature (IAT) is between 4-30°C (39-86°F).
The start-up ECT and IAT are within 9°C (16°F) of each other.
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is less than 121 km/h (75 mph).

Easy fix
Just clean off any dust on the seal and tighten it up.

No simple fix
That was recently covered in another thread. I think Mark had to pay $800 to replace the tank. He tried all kinds of stuff to seal it up and all failed. Change the topic's name to leaking tank or something and he can fill you in on what he tried.
Sorry

You've got it. Tank replacement is the only solution I found. I think this is the third tank filler neck issue related to the BL here. You other guys with BL's may want to consider adding in that filler hose extension if you haven't already.f9k9 wrote:No simple fix

Bummer. I am again wrong
A used tank would probably be the only other option?
One more reason the 2001's are nice...Steel gas tank.

Some of them, but not all. The filler neck is larger and has a vent line, that may not exist on yours. The fuel pump/sender assembly may differ as well?jeff024 wrote:will all the componets from my tank swap to a metal tank?
I am not sure what would work and wouldn't.
Availability of used tanks is going to be pretty limited as well. They are just not in the salvage yards around here yet.
Bite the bullet and buy a new tank , I guess.

You can try this guy for a used one. I picked up a posi rear from him a few years ago shipped to my friends shop for $150. It had to be shipped to a business address because it was freight. If he has one he may ship to your door. He has a lot of S-10s and he knows what will fit. Try hitting a body shop near you and maybe they could give you a line on a after market. I will keep looking around myself.

Hey Jeff, here's about 20 of them used. Do a drill down and put USA and your zip in the search

I doubt you'll find one for $200...I could be wrong though. It cost me a little over $800 to have mine replaced at a dealership. The parts alone were around $500-$600 I think. Most expensive estimate was when I was still in AZ...they quoted me $1100 to fix it.

The JB Weld will stop the large scale leaking temporarily, but it won't seal everything to make the SES light go out.
I'm not sure what's involved with swapping the tank. There's a lot of stuff plugged into the top of it that I didn't think I wanted to mess with so I just had to bite the bullet and have it done somewhere. I hope it's an easy fix so if others have the same problem it can be a "do-it-yourself" project.

Might be simpler if you had a garage with open rafters or an engine hoist rented to pull the bed. I could email the SI instructions later this evening.
