gas smell and bad fuel mileage
I recently did alot of maintenance work to my s10. New plugs and wires oil change and had the intake system cleaned by a mechanic. Now ive got this really strong smell of gas and my mpg has gone way down. Ive looked to see if I have a fuel leak but cant find anything leaking. Any one got any ideas as to what my problem can be?

Re: gas smell and bad fuel mileage
is the smell a twinge like rotten eggs?
The instant really bad gas mileage leads me to think of the plugged cat.

I replaced the forward section of the exhaust from the manifold to the muffler about a year ago because the cat was bad. Could that intake cleaning the shop did have plugged up that cat?

Possible. Was it a nitrogen purge?

Well ive found my fuel leak. Theres this little black box that sits right in front of my coil pack, atleast I think thats what its called, and its got 2 metal hoses that run into the top of it. Its just spraying gas out of the bottom of it. Im not sure what the part is. Any ideas? I took a picture of it but im not sire how to uplaod it.

Ive been doing some looking online and it looks like it could be my fuel pressure regulator. Am I close?

Oh it's also got the letters ped on the plastic cover. And when I take that cover off its got wires that run Into the top of it

Re: gas smell and bad fuel mileage
Thats the power connection for the fuel injector. The wires are for the fuel injection poppets. Its probably no good, if its original it should be replaced anyways as the original units were prone to leaking.

Re: gas smell and bad fuel mileage
Id imagine its not easy. I paid almost a grand to have it done. You have to take the intake manifold off to get it out. While you are at it get a new set of gaskets for that, because they always end up leaking coolant at some point. Flush your system out and replace the Dex with the green if you are still running dex. Save youself from the dex crud and having to go back in there again.

Re: gas smell and bad fuel mileage
Thanks for all the info everyone. Luckily it was a simple fix. The two fuel line going in right in front of that box were coming out. I think I missed something when I did the bodylift cause there was crazy pressure on them metal lines. But got them back in and no fuel leaks and my mpg has returned to normal.
