This has always bugged me, and they seem to do it in every vehicle. Why the heck would reverse need to be a higher ratio than 1st gear? It's not such a problem with automatics, but it always sucks with manuals. Burns the clutch while trying to position your boat/camper/trailer/etc. Why would anybody need to go faster backward than they do forward in first gear? To me, they should make reverse same as 1st gear, or lower.

It is to reduce the amount of torque applied. The ring and pinnoin are not designed to have heavy loads applied to the back side.

I was looking at the atlas 300 but it's too thin so my drive shaft problem would only be worse. So ill just leave it up to chuck and have him put in a m-37. That way he can make one his custom mounts, and it will be very strong.

:Off topic: When I get a new t case, Ill be doing spring over axle up front and goin up to 12" leafs up front (right now I have 6" leafs). How big of a tire do you think I could fit with the extra 11"s? my goal was 39.

warn, if you do the SOA and you are willing to buy new bigger tires....why not go ahead an get after market fenders from glassworks, they are about 200 a peice and then you could put bigger tires on with the same lift
