I learned a valuable lesson today. I have been carrying a new spare fan belt for about six months or longer. Today I decided to install it and carry the used one as a spare. The new belt had the same part number , but was too small and did not fit.
If you carry a spare, carry a good used belt that you know fits. I am glad I was not in need of a belt out in the Owyhee desert somewhere when I learned this lesson.
Spare belt.

Good advice! After having a new starter fail in my heep within 2 days last weekend I am having my old one rebuilt to carry as a spare. One thing about the POS Jeeps is that stuff is easier to change. I've got it down to under 10 minutes even with the bastard mix of metric and SAE

Not really. The parts guy at NAPA had seen it happen before.
Belts use pretty much the same sort of numbering system.
the first part 060 or 6K designates a 6 groove belt. the last three numbers are the length in inches 960 is 96 inches and 956 is 95.6 inches.
I bought the same length belt by another manufacturer and if fit right on.
From now on I will be packing good used parts as spares.
