Belt tensioner pulley

Looks like I'll be making a call to my local GM dealer for warranty work.

The belt tensioner pulley bearings are dry and sloppy.

The last couple days it started making a bit of a squeaky-rattling noise , and it has a slight wobble to it.

It is time for a new belt too. I can see quite a few cracks.

I'm at about 25k mi.

I got almost 40k, and all still looks new!

The dealer replaced the tensioner and the pulley. The old one was pretty sloppy.

I was told that it was pretty common. The pulley and tensioner were under warranty. I had to supply my own new belt, but they did install it , with no charge

No problems, good service.

That's what i would expect from a GM dealer but it's not always the case with the service department

i looked at mine. its still looked fine. so what do you mean sloppy. i got 50k on my truck and i want to be sure everything is maintained

Using a 3/8 ratchet, take the belt off. spin the pulley and feel for any roughness, wiggle it back and forth, there should be little or no wobble. Mine moved almost 3/8"

It was also making a slight chirp , or tick when running. I used a 24" bar (poor mechanics stethoscope) held to my ear and against the tensioner , while running to hear the clicking noise it was making.

While you're there look down at the inside of the belt for cracks, shiny areas and wear.

If your belt is over two years old it bears a close look, you're kinda stuck if you lose one

I'd change it with a new one and keep the old as a spare, if it is still any good.
