transfercase switch went

Post by nascarnutz »

Drove from Charleston s.c. to Greenville s.c.,about 200 miles this morning to visit my brother. Got off the interstate after driving straight through and heard a grinding noise coming from the passenger side front axle. Got out to see if something was rubbing, didn`t see anything...All of a sudden it occurred to me that I had read a post on here about the transfercase actuator. Then it occurred to me that the defrost vents weren`t working like they should have been earlier. Put it 4 wheel drive and the noise went away. Can`t drive on pavement like that though. So I drove the next 5 miles( in 2 wheel) slowly to my brothers house and called the 1-800 # for the Rick Hendricks autocare extended warranty. They are having it towed tomorrow to the local chevy dealer as there is no Rick Hendricks in Greenville. I guess my question is...#1 Have I damaged anything? #2 Has anyone ever had a similar situation where the warranty work could not be fixed by the dealer because the dealer was 200 miles away? What should I expect because I have no idea. I`m going to call Rick Hendricks first thing in the morning and see what they say but I want to be as prepared as possible. Thanks in advance and thank God my brother has 5 vehicles and only 3 drivers so I was able to drive his 97 nissan 4 wheel drive truck back to Charleston. Trust me I miss my truck already and I just got home...My a$$ is sore from the uncomfortable seat in the thing. Got better gas mileage though.4 cyl. Thanks again,Tony

Got my truck back yesterday. They replaced the switch but I still have no defrost. Meaning the vacuum is not closing the vents and redirecting the air flow. Will be dealing with Rick Hendricks next week. whoopie!
