Wierd whining sound coming from uner driverside while parked

Post by Blaze One »

I can hear a high pitch humming sound coming from under the driverside door area , while parked and idleing . Any thoughts ?

Also , when driving in "stop and go " traffic in the city , should i have it in "D" or "3" (transmission gear selection )

It sounds like the fuel pump. Mine has made that sound 3 times since I have owned the truck. It always goes away on my next re-start.

Sometimes it is more noticeable when the tank is low on fuel. It is a good idea to stay on the top half of the tank during warm weather. Gasoline is the cooling reservoir for the fuel pump.

So is this a sign that my fuel pump is going to stop working ? or just a normal sound ?

I'd worry more if I could not hear the buzz. Especially if it will not start as well.

Since your fuel pump is so loud, go ahead and make sure to change your fuel filter regularly!! On my 98 blazer when my fuel pump got louder than normal, I ended up putting in a new one within a few weeks!!!! Bummer :?: Learned a trick from my mechanic though that week that i paid the towing fee to my local garage; turning key = no fuel pump sound= not fuel going to engine=no cranking = costly repair= next time bang on fuel tank with heavy object and unfreeze fuel pump and drive to the garage instead of catching a ride home from work at 4 in the morning and saving 50 bucks towing fee!!!!!

About half way through my long day of driving my fuel pump started whining again. I will see what happens when I fire it up in the morning. I wonder if crappy gas could do it. My Blazer is missing a bit. I noticed today that my truck isn't purring as usual , and now the fuel pump. I fuel both our trucks at the same Amoco station, I might just hit the Texaco tomorrow and fill up just to see if my truck idles better.

Mine does that same thing since I bought it. I even had it replaced under warranty, same thing. At times it sound very loud, but not all the time. Still catches me off guard at times. But I've accepted it as normal by now, never really worried about it, at least I know it's working.

I tend to use 3rd gear instead of Drive when i'm driving around town or in stop and go traffic. If you can make this a habit you will help your torque converter clutches last longer and prevent unnecessary TCC cycling. I only use Drive on the freeway or when speeds are above 45 mph. I drive my CC and my SS this way all the time.
