I rinse mine off with a spray hose everytime I wash it. That usually gets most everything.
If you use a high pressure washer, just be careful.

Wash? What's that mean?
I used to use Simple Green on my Z28. Sprayed the whole thing down...waited about 15 minutes...then rinsed it. Worked pretty well.

one thing to watch out for --- I use simple green and my garden hose, but one time I got it in my alternator, and in the process it destroyed the bearings in my alternator --- in very little time. Like hours.
Now I take a plastic grocery bag, and wrap it round the alternator, and major electrical connections, the computer, and anything else I question.
I use a much diluted simple green/water mix, and I find it helps if the engine is warm.
Don't forget to take the bags off, and try not to wash the under-hood liner --that thing will trap water for a week.

ever try a pressure steamer? I bought a scunci handheld steamer to clean bathrooms. I have yet to try it on my engine but i did use it when changing the oil on a bobcat. It worked really well. They aren't too expensive $60
