My 2001 4.3 Crew Cab is hard to start only if the engine is already warm. I have to crank it for many seconds then it starts and it runs good. Sometimes during the cranking, it backfires.
I can't afford to have it looked at right now and am hoping to get some guidance here for now so I can maybe fix it myself. Thanks!

Re: Hard starting
Sounds to me like it is electrical in the distributor. Ignition module. Starts good when cold and when it gets warm a component or wire opens up due to the heat thereby causes your problem.
I would sure look into the electrics part first.
Good luck and keep us posted

Re: Hard starting
Sorry for the long delay in responding. I got two bad ICMs, and the third was an OEM part. It did not fix the problem. Suggestions...

Re: Hard starting
Basics. Ignition , fuel , air.
Distributor, plugs wires coil.
Fuel, Fuel filter, pump, injectors.
Air fliter, IAC valve, MAFS, EGR valve, throttle blade, vacuum lines, manifold leaks.
All suspects.

Re: Hard starting
Yeah, I'm thinking mostly ignition, but any of the other items can be suspects.
