Heated Mirrors Defroster Switch
I searched and didnt find what i needed, I need to know how to wire my heated mirrors correctly, I can get them to heat up but i cant get them to heat up from the switch there are 4 wires coming from the switch, Gray is the dimmer, Brown is ignition , white =? black is ground. I can only get the mirrors to heat up when they are connected to the brown wire. Does anyone know how the heated mirrors are wired? 2002 s-10 with rds radio

Orange wire from the relay to the mirror. White wire goes from the switch to the relay.

The relay is in the underhood power distribution center.

GM data wrote:Outside Mirror Description and Operation Heated Mirrors
Heated Mirror System Components
The heated mirror system consists of the following components:
* RR Defog relay
* HVAC control module
* Left outside power mirror
* Right outside power mirror
* HTD MIRROR 10A fuse
Heated Mirror System Controls
The heated mirror system is activated by depressing the rear window defogger switch, which is part of the HVAC control module. For further information on the rear window defogger operation, refer to Rear Window Defogger Description and Operation
Heated Mirror System Operation
The heated mirror system operates in parallel to the rear window defogger. Each outside rearview mirror contains a heating element that is connected to a constant ground source. When the rear window defogger system is active, battery voltage is available at the HTD MIRROR fuse and to the outside rearview mirrors through the heated mirror supply voltage circuit. The mirrors will heat up to remove ice, snow or frost and will automatically deactivate when the rear defogger system has timed out, approximately 10 minutes.

Check to see if you have the relay. If it is there check to see if it has the orange wire coming from it. If it does that goes to the firewall connection and from there to the connector for the mirror.
I would say that you have choices.
If the relay is not there you could add it and the associated wiring into the distribution center. It takes some work , but is a nice , clean, factory way to install.
For the relay the white wire is from the switch and grounds the relay to activate it. You will need a hot in run and start as well as a hot all the time and the orange wire to the mirror.
The white wire from the switch is to activate the relay via grounding. This means you could add your own relay down there if you wish and run straight to your mirrors. You may not have the advantage of the timed shut off though. This could drain a battery or worse toast a mirror?
The white wire comes from the HVAC control and may already have the timed delay integrated. Of that I am unsure?
There may be much more to all this than I know. Don't take my word here as gospel. I am shooting from the hip here as I have not looked into this in the depth that it may require.

Ok I checked the relay is there but the ornage wire is not, i guess it would be easier to just add the relay down my the heater/ac controls since i already have all the wires there, now the thing is how am i wireing th relay?
