shifting not reading right

when i start my cc and put it into drive the shift light shows im in 3rd then when i put truck in park it says im in 3rd and does not unlock doors like it used to any suggestions ??? i was thinking maybe a gear position indicator or a bad sensor .

Check the switch on the side of the transmission?

everything seemed alright, your talking where the lever is that causes the trans to shift into gear ? i mean the truck shifts into gear good but the indicator on the dash shows differant gear . im at a loss with this one

have not gotten to it yet been busy with work and fixing other peoples cars

Does it show in any other gears? Does it show them in the correct positions? There are also two button sensors on the column that indicate when the shift lever is spring back and resting in park, and the other I think shows if its in neutral? I haven't looked at that part of the electronics in over a year now. If the sensor for the park position is bad it may not be getting the command that the lever is fully returned to the park position so it wont unlock the doors. Just another thing that may need to be checked after you check your trans out.

The connections for them two buttons come off the multi function switch harness. That is the turn signal/high beam/cruise stalk.
