Re: Need help badly Guys, this one is way over my head!!
Ok, so for some unknown reason, my s10CC rolled down my driveway yesterday, and a tree has bent the passenger door all the way forward, breaking the hinges. After a lot of pushing, and wiggling, i was able to get the door closed. but its not seating right, and theres a gap Aside froma few paint chi...

So I do have the differential cleaned out by using brake cleaner and compressed air. Also, the gasket and new cover are on. I did notice that my magnet on the original cover was gone though. I didn't notice until I got the new one out to put it on. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/mimoss/12202...

Thank you for the updated part number! I had been searching for that and could not find it. I will update the information with that part number. Another diff cover option is to grab a cheap chrome cover for an Astro or Camaro. Surprising the stock cover at the dealership was only 17 dollars. ...

GM Axle Lube
So I just got back from 2 GM dealerships in town. I had to just get a regular stock cover. I called about 15 auto parts stores and no one had a rear diff cover in stock. I really want/need to get this done tonight. I asked the GM parts guy for the GM Axle lube part number SAE 80W-90 1052271 and he s...

Check out the threads on diff covers. I like the support covers modded for lubrication. How about a shot of the carrier. Personally I would go back to the recommended fluid. I don't want to get in to the whole synth vs GM lube thing again. That is covered in another thread. I would not add amsoil a...

UPDATE
Ok so I opened the rear differential cover and found that the fluid looks to be in good shape (no water contamination) Just that it has the posi additive that it shouldn't. My rear cover looks like it is in pretty bad shape though so I will see if I can get a replacement for it. The outside is very ...

The G80 Eaton Gov-Loc does not require posi additive and it should not be used with this type of locker. The factory service manuals and even the owners manual specifically say NOT to use limited slip additive with the G80. :nono: I don't know if it will cause the wheels to lock up or not, but you ...

When you had the rear serviced was the diff cover replaced or inspected? My OEM cover lasted about 3 years. I had to replace it because it was rusted through and allowed moisture/water to enter the rear. It was very obvious when I serviced it. For good measure I applied some RTV silicone sealant ar...

Water contaminatin in the rear end
OK, so I have had water contaminate my crew 2 times in the rear differential and axle ect... The 2nd repair was made six weeks ago and my truck is now acting up again. The rear wheels are locking up when I turn; this is the same thing that happened the last time water got into the diff, but it shoul...

My rear wheels are locking up again!!
Well it has been about six weeks since I had repairs made to my differential...My diff and axle have filled with water 2 times in the last 6 months. My last repair was six weeks ago and everything had been just fine until a few days ago. My truck is doing the exact same thing it did before the last ...

Vent placement looks good not to sure about the sponge since they hold water. On a different note in which rust belt do you live? from the bed corrosion it looks like a northern vehicle? I'll keep an eye on the sponge ect. I just was weary of how loose the vent plug was. I live in Michigan so the t...

OK so before I put another mile on my crew I figure I better relocate the vent hose. I took a look at it and with very little force the so called vent plug came off. So I can easily see how water could have been power sprayed in there causing my water filled axle 2 times. Because the vent plug was s...

OK, here is the update (bad news). Sorry for the late update but I've been busy and my internet was down for a few days. OK I took my crew into the transmission shop and they said the reason my rear wheels were sometimes locking up on me was water in the axle/differential AGAIN!! This was the 2nd ti...

Welcome to the forum mimoss . It sounds like your (G80) locker is engaging/disengaging on sharp turns which is normal to a certain degree, however it shouldn't do this every time you turn a corner. A wheel speed difference of about 200 rpm between left and right sides will engage the locker....

Water in the axle/differential AGAIN!!
I was recently driving my stock 2002 s10 crewcab home from a long trip and when i stopped to get some food I noticed that when I turned sharply at low speeds the rear tires were making some noises. It was almost like one rear tire would rotate and then the other one would rotate, and it was back an ...
