Re: Rear brake advice

Update: Rebuilt calipers, new rotors, new brake pads. Bled the system, took it for a test drive, everything felt pretty decent. I thought bleeding the system again a second time would be good just to be safe and flush more fluid out since it was really crappy and had sentiment in it.... now the brak...

Re: Rear brake advice

I checked the brake fluid reservoir this morning and it does not look good! So fluid change is probably badly needed, good call HenryJ :thumb:

and I did also order some rebuild kits since they were so cheap and I figured worst case scenario I'm only out 6 bucks.

Re: Rear brake advice

I bet my brake fluid has a ton of water then. I know I haven't changed it in the 3 years I've owned it. I will add that to the list.

Rear brake advice

So my truck has developed sticky caliper(s) on the rear. This truck has sat for some time with very short drives only every month or so. I drove it about 12 miles yesterday and the passenger rear was burning up and smelled pretty badly, driver side only had a rubbing noise. Guide pins moved fine, ju...

Re: 4wd noise

one thing I thought of after posting before, I also know my front wheel bearings are also on their way out, so not sure if that could contribute to the noise or not as well.

Re: 4wd noise

I think my truck is doing the same or similar. I'd describe mine more as a whine though. Right now it is only 4wd for me as well. I did replace my CV axles this spring... so not sure if fluid is low in the front differential?

5lb sledge made tapping the CV joint a breeze. First hit and it popped in. Recommend that to anyone in the future!

Re: CV shaft question

Having done a few of these axles myself, I have to agree with roadrunner, you're probably just fighting the snap ring. Sometimes it takes a few good whacks with a BFH to seat the snap ring. I ran into the same problem a few months ago when installing a passenger side cv axle on my 88 S10 Blazer. It...

Okay roger that. I haven't been able to double check anything yet but will hopefully tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far though!

Re: CV shaft question

More likely the internal snap ring is fighting you or has been dislodged from it's groove. Double/triple check. Damage WILL result if it's not engaged properly. Double check on needle bearings is also in order. There is one snap ring right? It was still on when I put the axle partially on. Didn't l...

Re: CV shaft question

I have removed/replaced the RH cv shaft without removal or disconnection of either the hub bearing or the ball joint. It is tight but comes out opposite what you think. You need to crank the steering clear to the right and pop the INSIDE of the cv joint loose from the front differential shaft compr...

A local radiator shop reccomends liquid Dawn dishwashind soap. We tried it on a grader that had a ruptured hyd. oil cooler, and it worked wonders removing the oil. Yes! Your posts were the ones I had seen. I went out and got some dawn today and hopefully will have time tomorrow to flush the cooling...

Are you talking about doing this with the powdered kind, right?! No. Liquid degreaser. I forgot what brand people have used and I recall a certain brand not to use due to certain ingredients, iirc. EDIT: after looking for the coolant flush post I came across a while ago, I found this: http://forums...

Re: Liquid behind dash

Might check the radiator cap. There is a good thread on caps. It can take some effort to purge the system. I replaced the radiator cap with one from Autozone ~1 year ago. Never looked at brand, just had them give me one. It is a Motorad, 16#. So I may follow others in the radiator cap thread and re...

Re: Liquid behind dash

Yes. Check for damp carpet on the passenger side too. I have checked carpet after driving and it has been dry. No obvious smell or stains of coolant. Also driving it right now, there is little to no gurgling. Is there anything specifically that causes it to happen that I can do to help the search?

Re: Liquid behind dash

Gurgling does describe the noise better. I changed the intake manifold gasket about a year ago, the rear of the manifold was clogged with dexcool. Since changing it out, I flushed the system and went with the green coolant. I also fill a little my overflow tank and it disappears too. so next step I ...

Liquid behind dash

I just want to make sure that what I am thinking is right on this one... There is some liquid behind my dash towards the passenger side. I only notice it when I accelerate. It sounds like it is liquid being semi-sucked up through a tube and kind of bubbling somewhere. That is from the leaky transfer...

just FYI, if anyone is interested in the Autolite's and needing spark plugs soon, they have a $2 dollar rebate per plug running til Nov. 30, 2012. I went through Rockauto, not sure if that matters.

Re: Spark plugs

I assume Autolite Iridium XP605's are still the way to go and recommended? I have been running Champion or NGK (just Autozone budget kind, I believe) along with Duralast plug wires. No major complaints, except kind of a bumpy idle which I thought was an 02 sensor, now I'm thinking may be my plug/wir...

Ball joint replacement

Hey guys, just wanted to get some feedback before I tackle attempting to replace my ball joints. From what I can tell, my upper ball joints are the super bad ones. The lowers have very minimal play in them, should I replace both upper and lower anyways at the same time? I'm leaning towards just doin...
