Re: Need help solving mystery problem
What kind of idle trouble are you having? Too slow, too fast, dies at idle, rough idle?

Re: Replacement CV Axle
Our local Advance usually can't keep help, but Auto Zone has turned out better for me. At Advance there's not mant\y that know what a catalog is, just what's in the computer. I've had them tell me that something would not work because the computer didn't say it would. My answer to them usually is "...

Re: P0420: Dreaded inefficient catalyst
The non foulers will work and save about 10 dollars. There is a little extra labor involved to drill out one of the non foulers for the sensor tip to clear.

Re: Replacement CV Axle
I have found that Advance Auto is competitive as far as price. I usually give them the first shot. In the case of CV axles their only choice is GSP; I found better reviews of Cardone.

Replacement CV Axle
First off a disclaimer: I don't off road this truck so all I looked for was OEM quality. I do need 4WD in bad winter weather to get to work but that is about it. As we all know a keyed torsion bar lift is hard on the CV axles due to the exaggerated angles. Mine is a about a 2" lift. I had a torn out...

P0420: Dreaded inefficient catalyst
I recently did battle with a P0420 code. The PCM samples the pre catalyst oxygen sensors and compares those readings to the post catalyst oxygen sensor to determine if the catalytic converter is doing its job properly. I could not get a hard explanation on what exactly the PCM looks for when compari...

P0101 experience
I recently had trouble with a code P0101 and wanted to post my findings. I have a cold air intake and what looked like a K&N air filter (it was on the truck when I bought it). It was dirty and assuming that it was a K&N, cleaned and oiled the filter. About two weeks later I started to get a Mass Air...

Possible right axle seal (where inner cv joint fits into front differential housing).

Re: Took out blocked pre-cat and welded in pipe, poor perfor
Sounds like you still have an exhaust restriction. An easy way to check for a restricted exhaust is to use a vacuum gauge. Find a vacuum port that has full vacuum at idle (some ports are ported and the vacuum increases as the rpm increases). With the engine idling in park, observe the vacuum gauge r...

A great looking mod; I spotted the solid axles right away. Definitely a permanent and long term lift solution for the S10.

Re: Air Conditioner question
I bought a set of gauges from Harbor Freight the other day and slapped them on my 2002 CC this morning. This is what I have got: Engine not running with air temp at 90 lo side 15 high side 90. Engine running, windows down, vent temp in the center of the dash 80 lo side 20 high side 150 with the com...

Re: Adjusting rear ebrake
re: high carbon monoxide readings. A high percentage of carbon monoxide when sampling tailpipe emissions is usually due to a rich fuel mixture. The carbon monoxide could be high enough to fail an emissions test but not bad enough to trigger a service engine soon light. As others have mentioned a deg...

Bazooka tubes are great for this application. I have one that was under the rear seat in a full size extended cab and then put it in my S10 blazer; have been very happy with the performance.HenryJ wrote:I and a couple others added Bazooka tubes.

Re: Hootz 2003 SEMA crew cab
I must say its really awesome to see this truck end up in the hands of someone who will actually drive it and care for it! Too cool to see these rigs actually get used after a life of show. Its all too often they are forgotten and left to rot and or be crushed after their show usefulness is over. I...

Re: Hootz 2003 SEMA crew cab
Sounds like a great background in an owner for a truck that deserves it. I think it had a torsion key lift? Hows the suspension holding up? Boots and ball joints usually fall victim to the over crank. This rig has been running that lift for over half a dozen years. Some real world facts on the life...

Re: Hootz 2003 SEMA crew cab
The truck is still in pretty good shape. I'll post some pics when I get some better ones. I stumbled across this on Craigslist while truck shopping. The exterior is in excellent shape although the front light bar and winch fell prey to an accident earlier in its' life. The interior still looks good ...

I am surprised they did not upgrade the alternator. I guess it was pretty early and we did not know about the AD244 swap yet. The intent of that truck was a showcase for other stuff. Pretty cool to see that truck show up here after all these years. There is a thread around with the sketches they di...

Re: AC just stopped working.
I have had good luck with Harbor Freight gauges. Here is a link:http://www.harborfreight.com/a-c-manifo ... 92649.html
I would not want to use them professionally but are good for home use.

Re: Bigger alternator
Thanks to all that posted on this subject!! I just recently bought this truck which spent most of its' previous life as a trailer queen towed to shows. Although the odometer mileage is low it probably idled a lot with the audio cranked. The original alternator was all but dead...did not charge well ...
