Okay, playing with loading/unloading the side gears. Could it be as simple as the pass side clutch pack being worn down much, much more than the driver's side? The whole clutch pack/side gear assembly is sort of spring loading off center toward th passenger side. I can push it back toward the driver...

Abrasion on the cross shaft. I am 99% sure this happened after the c-clip fell out and later movement of the axle occurred while cornering: Is this lip correct on the back side of the clutch pack? This is the passenger side. The driver's side doesn't have this lip: There is a 100k limit for posted i...

What you see in the pic is just a little bit of filing from rubbing against the cross shaft. The ends of the axles are beveled. The very edge of the bevel has some filing, but the flat portion of the axle end doesn't appear to be worn too bad. I pulled the driver's side and calipered the ends of the...

Pass axle is inserted and touching the cross shaft. Note the gap where the c-clip can easily be inserted and removed without removing the cross shaft: Link oversize images-HJ This is the end of the pass side axle: http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h89/jayhawkclint/2001%20Chevy%20S-10/P9070456.jpg Th...

No. I'm here to verify first hand that the c-clip can just fall out. The c-clip was installed, I pulled it off the magnet. The axle had no work done to it other than I changed the fluid 2 years ago. No one else works on any of my vehicles. I'm looking at the carrier and sliding the axle back and for...

Jacked up both tires, put the truck in neutral, then rotated the carrier back and forth. I can see now there is a good sized portion of the cross shaft that has been worn down. Going to order a new cross shaft at minimum, probably take the carrier down while I'm at it and look at the thrust washers ...

C-clip Fell Out
Got a really loud screeching from the right rear whenever I would go around corners. Had to ride the brakes a little to get the sound to go away. Thought it was worn or glazed brakes, so ordered new pads. Pulled the tire off and saw that the pads were still really thick and had about a 1/4" or so be...

Wish I could tell of some magical modification that I've done to produce these results, but I just recorded a 23mpg tank a week ago. The truck has over 150k on it and is running better now than I think it did 100k ago. Even though that tank was the best I've ever recorded, the average isn't too shab...

I noticed in the write-up it recommends separating the door from the body. I think a better way is to do it one pin at a time; I was able to safely change out my pins without the assitance of a helper holding up the door for me. Also, I noticed in the photos a picture of a pail with a plastic tool c...

T-stat temp vs. MPG
Just as an aside to the 0128 codes I see posted: Early in the winter I noticed my truck struggling to reach 160* on the temp guage. At first I just thought it was cold weather, running the heater, etc. Then we had a couple days get down below 20* and it started throwing an 0128 code. Well, the truck...

Fuel Pump Replacement
About a month ago my OE fuel pump went out at 132,000mi. I thought I would save a buck and put in the Airtex. Bad, bad mistake. 17 days later the pump started acting up. I milked it for about a week hoping it was something other than the pump going bad. No joy. Today I had the pleasure of replacing ...

Here's how I do mine, similar to what it sounds like is being done up above. I was tired of coming out from under the truck looking like I had been drug through the transmission; no matter how hard I tried, I always spilled fluid everywhere and ended up laying in it. I had a leftover brass fitting f...

I had a problem with mine a couple years ago where the original Dex-cool (Interesting read: http://www.aftermarketnews.com/Item/30144/ruling_is_near_on_gm_engine_coolant_class_action_sought_over_dexcool.aspx) clogged my heater core up solid. I was able to pull one of the heater lines off the firewal...
