Thanks! Awaiting some more to be used for the reading lights and marker lights. Also in development is the PC74 bulbs used for the headlight and HVAC controls so those will match my gauge cluster as well.

Can you get the dash lights to go as dim as the originals?

What part numbers are the bulbs?

They wont go as dim, but very very close. Its the same level of dim that my GTI can do in the dash though, so I am satisfied. The more LEDs added to the circuit the more dim you can go. Since right now I only have the gauge cluster done I may be able to get it to go further once the rest is added.

The bulbs dont have a part number on the site unfortunately, but if you email info@performanceLEDs.com and tell Shawn him you would like to order the 6-SMD 194 interior lights @6000k he can set you up with a package and a paypal invoice. He uses OSRAM and CREE SMD LED modules so only the highest quality stuff is used for the bulbs, which is why they are $9.99 a piece. The overhead light is the Elite Series 6SMD festoon 42MM @6000k. Its just as if not way brighter than the stock incandescent bulb, though hard to see that in my picture here.

Just tell him Anthony with the S10 crew cab sent you.

Nice, i saw these somewhere else before. Expensive as hell! I see they use CREE LEDs also which are top notch stuff so probably worth what you pay.

Came home to a flat left front tire after being away all weekend. Seems the dry rot has gotten the best of it finally. Drove it and heard some noise in the front end, turns out my inner CV joint exploded. Of course this is not the one I bought from napa its the one the mechanic got for me from god knows where. Oh well.

I finally got my truck back from getting the control arm bushings put in. I went with Moog uppers and Energy Suspension lowers. I cut and shaped some 1/8th inch strap steel to be welded onto the uppers so we didn't crush them as we pressed the old bushings out. The upper control arms are pretty weak looking, while the bottoms look pretty stout. For the lowers, I cut and shaped 1 C shaped piece that we used on all 4 bushings, but I don't know how nessicary it was, it didn't get welded in like the uppers. Then there was some hockey pockey at the alignment shop, but I finally was able to go get it yesterday with the trailer, since I didn't have a ride in there.

No progress on the blazer switch. My front brakes need replaced. My power steering pump needs replaced. I need to change my oil. It just rolled over 79,000 yesterday.

I'm surprised at how much frame flex that has. Look at the body lines from the cab to the bed. As much as the frames are boxed, I didn't expect to see that much. I am slightly jealous, and feel the need to go get stuck in a jeep.

Because of the axle swap. A front shaft isn't needed to make the truck move. Sure does help in the mud, though.

Mine got impounded today because the lovely state of NJ never sent me a registration renewal form for the crew. Going to the DMV tomorrow to raise hell. I was taking it out to get the half shaft replaced that I found damaged last week. No good deed goes unpunished.

Took it to Dave at Afterhours to have the half shaft replaced. When he lifted up the truck there was oil dripping pretty bad under it. Found the driver side motor mount MIA and the oil cooler lines crushed on the diff. The time and cost to repair this is not worth it. Had to add two quarts of oil to get it home where it will now be parked until everything comes together for the engine swap. It hasnt really been running well at all the past few days, feels like it idles on 4 cylinders. At 269,500 I guess you cant really blame the engine too much.

Id love to have a Vortec 5300 but I may just get a Vortec 5.7. Whatever I can get at the right price ill take it. I like the idea of the almost 100 more HP and better tuning abilities of the 5300 LS engine but again, well see what comes out of it. I def do not want another 4.3L.

Installation of the 5300 is going to be considerably more expensive though.

Thats what I hear. But am I going to be able to mess with the performance/fuel economy as much as I would with the newer engine? Keep in mind this is not a wheeler or a race car. Its my daily I use to go to the train station and I use now and then for medium distance (100-200mile) road trips.

Started hearing a bearing noise from the front of the truck a while back, so I ordered a couple of bearings. It got progressively louder, so yesterday I replaced them. The left side went well, it was a little tight, so I started on the right side. When I got the right side rotor off, there was grease on the bearing, and the spring for the seal was hanging out of the bearing. After replacing the right side, and taking a drive I noticed that I didn't have to hold the steering wheel to the left to keep the truck straight. I guess that it happened so gradually that I didn't notice having to hold the wheel to the left to correct the steering. Now to get the coins for an A.I.R. pump, injector spider, intake gaskets and coolant hoses.

If you want the injector spider my motor is shot and had a new one installed about 50K ago. The motor isnt worth much of anything but I may be able to get it out for you. I also have a new fuel injector in there also. I dont know what a new one goes for but I am sure I can make you a deal.

I got some stuff done the last couple of days.

I started off messing around with my van. I fixed the overhead fan in the back. It ended up being a big 50 amp fuse that was blown. Once it was replaced, I had power at a switch on the dash that I thought was useless, although I have no idea what it was supposed to do. 1 wire from it went to a battery separator, which I don't really need. So I rewired the switch to run the rear interior light, which I had Jerry rigged in the dark the last time I went to Attica. I also put in a dual 12v outlet in the back, and put it on a switch. Then I ordered some LEDs that are rated at 220 lumens for the 2 interior lights, they showed up sometime yesterday or the day before, and will go in today.

Then I went over to help my buddy with his camper setup. The last time we took it out, he took a wrong turn at like 2 am, in the middle of nowhere, onto a dead end road. We had to make an interesting u turn, and long story short, the camper shifted on his trailer. He has an in bed camper on the front of a gooseneck trailer that he also hauls his jeep on.

I did get a picture when we hooked the s10 to the side of the trailer to drag it. It worked, but not well lol.

Image

Once the camper was centered on the trailer, he made some nice, stout braces to hold it in place.

So we were using shop space that isn't usually available to us. I took advantage of that. While he was building the braces, I wired up a 12v outlet on the little panel at the back of the center console in the s10. TIP: to get the piece to fit better than it did, I heated up the middle and bent it slightly flatter, it worked great, it's nice and tight and I can still get it out to unplug it when the center console needs pulled out.

With that done, I turned my focus to changing the front brake pads. I started that at about 9 pm. Then I finished wire looming and zip tying the wires I ran to the bed.

At some point that night, there was discussion of building catapults. Yes, folks, that's right, catapults. So for about 15$ in weights and nuts and bolts, I built this:

Image

It will launch a tennis ball across my girlfriends apartment. But I wanted MORE!

So I spent most of yesterday planning a torsion catapult! I ended up buying 100 feet of rope for about 12$ and using wood that was at our shop (my grandpa has a pretty decent wood working shop in the barn). All was going extremely well until I used the handles to tighten the rope. After 1.5 turns on each side, I busted a board. So much for trying to make it look rustic with used boards lol. I plan to redo it today, but my lady friend may have other plans for me.

Image

Image

I am actually planning to mount this bad boy in the bed of the jeep Comanche. How hilarious would that be? Go to offroad park, get stuck, play with catapult until help shows up, get unstuck, play with catapult some more. Anyways, I came across stormthecastle.com . There is a bunch of DIY stuff on there for making stuff like that.

So the only other things I can think of is I also ordered some LED lights for the interior of the s10, which seem to be alright. And the LED light strips that I ordered showed up too. Things should be getting a lot brighter around here.

Shoulda got the overhead light that I did for my S10. Its brighter than the incandescent bulb and fits right where it goes. It was 25 bucks though. All Osram high power emitters. I dont need any other lights in that truck anyore lol. Except maybe the two reading lights in the back sometimes are needed to light up that dark spot behind the seats. Next time I am bored I am gonna rewire the crew to be the same as the old blazer so that when the dome light is on the reading lights also default on.

When I was in high school we had to build a Trebuchet for technology class. They could be as big or as small as we could make them. They made us watch a two part PBS special on it before we were allowed to even do anything it was awesome. I have no idea what happened to that thing, as 4 guys I think worked on it together. Once they were done we were launching crap across the parking lot with it.

Which fugly GMC wheels? Who wants my S10 wheels? lol I dont want them anymore.

I powerwashed the yellow off it yesterday and found the entire windshield is cracked now. I musta hit a rock that chipped the glass way up by the body at the top and from the hot days and cold nights we been having, well, crack! Its in a big S down the passenger side. I needed a new windshield anyways mine is so sandblasted after 260K that its impossible to see out of if the sun hits it.

Well, didnt really do this stuff today was monday, Got the truck moved over to the Afterhours shop to start getting things together for my engine swap. The truck surprisingly ran fine, maybe because it knows the engine is doomed. Battery was kinda dead from sitting for almost 2 months and the rotors were quite glazed over making stopping fun. Got the new hood swapped over and got all the components swapped from my drivers door to the donor door to prepare to swap that out. Had to frankenstein my old console with the new console i bought since the new one was a little banged up in a few places.

Now comes the fun part, dealing with craigslist and car part.com to try and find me a 5.7L Vortec engine and harness to swap out in to the truck. If anyone knows of a good place to get a truck motor from I am willing to drive 2-3 hours from NJ to pick it up if the price is right.

I changed my oil and my front rotors last night. Quick question, the bracket that holds the pads on, it needed to come off to get the rotors on and off. Should I have put lock tite on those bolts when I put it back together?

Put mine on jack stands & tore the rear brakes apart.
The piston in the lr caliper broke & started leaking fluid.
I topped off the fluid & drove it 17 miles 2 get it home.

Yesterday put a deposit on a 5.7L Vortec V8 out of a 97 1500 pickup. Picking it up Sunday. Also bought the body lift kit, motor mounts and adaptors and a set of Sanderson headers tonight. Let the V8 swap commence!

Maybe I should start a build thread for it?

I changed mine too and they are very easy to change. Just make sure you have a left and right side when you buy them..
If your handles are good you can buy a key for them too.

I was having a weird "clicking" noise when I accelerated, and a clunk when putting it in gear. I had my suspicions but didn't really investigate it for a while. Everyone was thinking my rear axle was gonna explode, maybe I was too and not wanting to investigate so that if it did I could find a zr2 axle, I don't know. But anyways, I took the rear driveshaft off and most of my noises were coming from the rear most u joint.

I replaced both joints with Spicer part number 5-3147X

Sound is gone now? Do you have any leakage from the seal on the axle where the drive shaft goes in? I know mines wet as anything

Yea most strange noises disappeared when I replaced the joints. Most not all haha. The axle seal is all good.

Yesterday I pulled the front seats and the console and cleaned the inside of the truck really good with soap and water. It is as clean as its been since I bought it. I use soap and water because it seems like if I use something like armor all that the dust just sticks to it.

I don't know what I'm gonna do today, but hopefully it's s10 related

The handles were very easy to do.
They were tagged left & right when I got them.
They also came w/ new set screws & latched.
Only tools needed were a #2 Phillips & a flat head screwdrivers.
Just do 1 side @ a time & pay attention to the direction of the latch.
The only slightly time consuming part is adjusting the latch so you get a good seal against the cap w/o having to fight w/ it. or have rattles.

I had keys for my old locks, but they were frozen.
I've been soaking them in pb blaster for the past month, but no go.

My old handles were metal & the new ones are plastic.

Not sure how they will hold up in the north east, guess we will find out.

I saw something the other day that may help get the latches unstuck. Let me see if I can find it....

I did the extended range mod for the keyless entry. Seems to be working pretty good. I also found the cause of another mystery noise. Had a clunk in the front end when turning back and forth that turned out to be the brackets that hold the sway bar bushings to the frame. Had to drop the skid plate to get at em'. Time will tell, but on the way home I didn't hear any strange noises, which was strange in itself haha :runforhills:

Once you get the heavy dirt off using Aerospace 303 on everything will keep it looking new and super easy to dust off. I use it on all of my vehicles. Its how that little VW had such a clean interior at 125k heh. The great thing about the aerospace stuff is it can be used inside and outside of the car as it contains UV protectors. I use it on any external plastic parts and it keeps them looking like new. When you go to wash you will see the water bead off its great.
