Is will 93 hurt our trucks? Would 89 work better?

93 octane will not hurt your truck, but if you dont have some kind of chip or programmer, you wont be able to take full advantage of the higer octane. Before I had the chip, just to keep things clean, I'd run a tank of 93 octane every 2-3 tank fulls.



It has a higher detonation than lower octane, and i believe a hotter one too. I just felt that it kept things cleaner in the motor.

around town 87... but towing i MUST use super otherwise it pings

Did you notice if it was Research Octane No. or Motor Octane No. ?

Research Octane No. run higher than Motor Octane Numbers.



Most pumps here use (R+M)/2 , the average.



If it ends in a decimal equivalent , some states may allow it to be rounded to the next higher number?

Didn't think about that. Makes sense. Unfortunately, I've turned into "Joe Average Consumer" and quit looking at things like that. I just zero in on the "87" part at the pump and try to avoid looking at the price!

I tend to watch that a little closer for the HenryJ.

It runs best (overdriven) on 115 octane fuel.

Unocals "Trick Racing Fuel" has a Research Octane of 115 , Motor Octane of 106 , the (R+M)/2 is listed as 110 and it is sold as 110 Octane racing fuel.

It keeps me checking the pumps to see if someone is selling "cheap" fuel under the Research Octane rating, trying to fool some of the uninformed ;)

Well, with the HenryJ, you have to. I've had a few cars that , while they weren't blown, had very high compression (13:1 in one of them) and were the same way. Had to be real careful with what you put in them. Over the last 10 years though, I've had mostly cars that would run on anything which has made me get lazy about octane, etc. My old VW is like that. You could almost drink a 6-pack and then, uh, well you get the idea. My CC is amazingly picky about gas though. Pour the cheap stuff in and it'll let ya know real fast. It doesn't ping (or at least you can't hear it) but it feels noticably sluggish.

Mine has pinged on 87, and that was when I had stock tuning. But then I never had anything that ran right on 87, always gives me some kinda trouble. I like to stick with 93 mostly, sometimes 89. Unless it's a rental, then the cheap stuff all the way.

I've been using 89. Got a free fill up at the dealer and it was 87; the difference was notable. It runs a lot better with the 89.

i put 87 in everytime. i will have to try something new. GM claims that they only want their customers using 87 in all their motors

That cause so when your vehicle is out of warranty, you will have to buy new injectors. :lol:
