It sounds like the the heat shield has broken loose on it. Sometime you can find a shop that can tack weld it so it stops rattling.

I have been having this pinging noise coming from under my truck for a few months. It started out as just a ping once in a while and has gotten worse. The tune-up didn't help. I remembered reading a thread a while back about it possibly being the cat converter. I crawled under my truck and looked arround and didn't see any thing loose. I then tapped on the front cat converter with my nuckles and it sounded like it was full of sand. Does that mean its bad?

It is possible.
You should hear nothing loose inside.

Check out this thread- Plugged Pre-cat

I read that thred and my truck is doing some of the same things. The spark knock is exactly what it sounds like. I have also noticed that my truck is running a little hot especially since it's winter. The mileage seems to be getting worse. I will take it to the dealer. I just want to have all my ducks in a row before I take it in.

Thanks

Return the programming to stock and watch out for any aftermarket accessories that they may blame for it running rich and destroying the cat. Not that is is their fault, but they will be blamed.
I think the precat is a good idea that just didn't work out very well.

Do you think they might blame the flowmaster? I called a friend of mine and he told me to get fixed right away that it might ruin my flowmaster.

No, I think your flowmaster is fine. The issues should be before the cats.
The cat provides plenty of back pressure and the sensors should make the needed adjustments to prevent converter damage.
I think the precat is just too easy to foul, and too small to not go bad. The main cat should be more than enough to meet emissions standards, although you would fail the visual inspection without all parts intact.

Will the pre cat going bad cause the service engine soon light to come on and set off the P0410 code? Was just curious if I have more then one problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Steve M

I am not sure, but don't really think so.
GM data wrote:Conditions for Setting the DTC P0410

* The HO2S voltage does not decrease to less than 222 mV within 1.2 seconds when the AIR pump turns on during Closed Loop operation. AND
* Short term fuel trim does not increase above a predetermined amount.
I suppose it is possible the two are related. I did not experience that though. The air pump code has usually been do to contamination and water in the pump. I would fix the plugged cat problem first and see if there is improvement.
Under warranty they should inspect both. You will know more after that.
