2001 Radio opening

Post by Crew02 »

Can someone with a 01 CrewCab measure the opening they have for their radio in the trim piece that surrounds it? Thanks!

I did some research and it appears early 02s still had the same Din.5 opening like the older 01 GMs. Late 02s(mine is considered late as an april or may 02 build date) appeared to have gotten the new Oversized Double DIN opening similar to import cars.

I bought a radio install kit so if you need measurements on that, let me know.

Cheers,
Con

Mine also has the double din opening. I want to install a 1 1/2 din radio. I have ordered the trim bezel for a 01 so I can install the radio and make it look factory. The radio I am installing is the Pioneer DEH-P77DH. The guys over on S-10 forum had installed it in an 01 with no problems. I have had the radio in the dash and it fits fine. The bezel just did not fit correctly and I did not want to cut it up. I just wanted to check the opening dimensions before I ordered it. My opening is 7" wide and 4 inches tall. The radio requires 7.5" X 3" so the 01 bezel is perfect. If anyone else is interested in doing this the part number is 15054235 for dark charcoal.

If I understand you corectly, you are going to replace the dash panel on your 02 with an 01 dash panel which has the din.5 opening instead of the double din? Will the radio drop in without a kit in our double din opening?

If I got your part number correctly, that panel is 100bucks! Sure you can't return/sell that radio to get a double din or single din? Or did you get that panel cheaper?

My kit I bought PDF pics:
http://www.americaninternational.net/np ... 22-npr.pdf
It can take two single DIN radios or one Double din. It cost me 10bucks after shipping.

Yea, I bought the dash piece off of ebay for 14.00. I also got the Pioneer for a $100 because it was an open box. I'm cheap, but I still like things to look good. 8)

Here's a din and a half kit from crutchfield that should fit the dash. I don't know about fitting your "dvdcdamfm tuner and a flip out screen" though.

You might give them a call. I've found their tech support folks to be fantastically helpful.

although, if you aren't planning to purchase anything from them, I wouldn't go making them work for you on Christmas.
