I know this is a non Crew cab question but need your help. Got a friend witha 2000 silverado withthe 5.3. Needs to replace the water pump and needs to remove the fan clutch. The nut holding the fan clutch to the pump, are these reverse thread ?

No, they are not reverse threads.

The best way of remembering it is with the motor running, the waterpump shaft is trying to screw into the fanclutch nut (it gets tighter). So, with the motor off, turning the fan and nut the direction the fan is designed to turn will screw it off.

Check your source again. The waterpump is reverse rotation , so the nut is right hand threaded. "Lefty loosey to remove". A good swat on the wrench will break it loose.

My bad, I thought by "reverse thread" he meant "left handed thread".

"My bad too" I read your post quickly and got the wrong impression. I think we are on the same page. By now he should be done as he PM'd this question last week and I answered.

No problem. I just now read the date, that pump should be on by now.

Thanks to all. Sorry, right hand threaded is what I meant.

Yeah, got it put back together and it's back on the road after he let it sit for about a year. Got to share my limited knowledge with a newb.

Thanks again.
