Need To try and Cool the truck better

Post by KLINDNR »

I need to now what I can do to improve the cooling system on my s-10 pickup. I have put a Transmission oil cooler on the front of the radiator. Truck pulls my 20ft trailer fine even up high mountains. I just think I can improve the cooling. Transmission does really good. The temperture run high about 220 to 230 when it needs to be 210.

I just traded my ZR5 back in July because I couldn't keep it cool while towing my boat. I wish I had taken a few more steps to get it running cooler before I just traded it off. I really did like the truck.

My next steps were to add the larger capacity radiator. There is a sticky or thread about that somewhere around here. It's pretty common modification, and highly reccomended. Secondly I was going to get a custom tune to enable the tow/haul mode in the PCM. This keeps the TC locked while towing, and I feel would've kept a good deal of the heat OUT of the radiator.

Good luck, and let us know how everything shakes out!
