Has anybody had any problems with wheel hop? Is there a mod that works well to get rid of it? (I really dont belive not using the gas pedal is an option) My 2wd s-10 had the exta shock and never had a problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Clinton

I think someone had mentioned here once that those "helper springs" reduced wheelhop, but I'm not 100% sure. You might look into those.

Yeah, the crew does seem to hop very easy. I brought the subject up a little while ago. The 3rd shock will help, but I think it will hurt off-roading since it will limit flex on that side. But if you don't wheel, then it should be fine. I was looking at the helper springs but they don't state it helps or not. The only other thing that said will help is the ladder bars but I have not found any that appear to be bolt on that don't hang down to much. Superlift has a set for GMs that don't hang down to much but not sure if it will work on the s10.

That's cause the rear shocks are mounted on the same side of the rear axle. There are different ways to remedy that. Track bars, and another I can't remember. I don't seem to really have any probs though. I think I automatically avoid it somehow. :roll:

ya, check out s10planet.com for the 3rd shock modification. do it and it will help wheel hop :wink:

A couple of things came to mind this time around this subject.

Tires can make a difference. I had an old set of TA's that hopped terribly. When I went to the Dunlop's that all stopped.



Another is balance. When I first put the HenryJ on street tires I had a problem it turned out to be a poorly balanced tire. Once correctly balanced the hop went away.



These are just a couple things to think about.



The third shock setup was the factory answer to dampening the spring wrap.

Most drag cars run the shocks same side and don't have problems (mine included)

Maybe a decent pair of shocks would help, probably need them anyway.

Straight line, I don't have wheel hop. When I turn and gun it, wheel hop galore.

I heard spring over axle reduces wheel hop so that's why you don't have any wheel hop! Advantage TrailMaster! :)

Hellwig offers a rear sway bar for us:

I just saw a mag Article that they have a new product called Hellwig Spring Stabilizers that says to reduce spring wrap. Looks similar to their helper springs.

When I was installing the wheel spacer, I see my axle did not have the 3rd Shock mount like in the pics on the 2wd trucks. So if someone can verify on their Crew if you have the mount, that would be great. If the 2001s have it, they might have stopped putting the mount on the 2002+.

i have an 03 it does not have the mount on the diff. It bummed me out I was going to to the mod but dont want to weld on the diif housing cd

just weld the bracket to the axel housing and mount it to the frame. no biggy. or mabey even modify the bracket and flip the the passenger shock foward. that might fix it as well

Kind of defeats the purpose of "bolt-on" ;) With that much work to weld the bracket, other solutions become more viable.



I'm considering the Heliwig as I think this will help and since I carry my Dirtbike, less sagging when loaded. But as someone said here, the bracket and bolts will hand lower so it will be a off-road hazard for damage. catch 22.

Sorry, I know this is a really old post but I had wheel hop really bad every time I took off from a dead stop I would get it. I couldn't find a real solution on this site so I experimented and wanted to share. An easy way that I found to get rid of wheel hop was helper springs from VIP auto 30$ a pair the kind that go on top of the leaf springs. 1 set in front and 1 behind the axle. I also got new shocks just cheap Gabriel Ultras and the problem is gone! Little stiffer ride but what the heck its a truck it should ride like one!

Haha, I got a got an email on the post also. I've been so busy, I haven't been spending any time on the forums. But I do still have my Crewcab. It's right where I like it. The leaf over axle and a small added leaf to the pack fixed my probs.

leafspring clamps work great on the street. not sure what effect they would have on offroading if left on while doing that...

It would be a dealer item, if you can still find it. Lots of hunting in the salvage yards might find one too.

Just the right side.
Other forums may be a better place to look for a photo of one installed. These did not come on crew cabs, or 4x4 s-series as far as I know.

Before I added my RoadMaster Suspension I had clamped the spring pack to keep the wheel hop down. I had some extra bolts and metal brackets from a different helper spring installation. I just used two 3"x1"x1/2" brackets with grade 5 bolts and washers and clamped the leaf pack in front of the spring perch about 3 inches forward.
