In need of ZR5 bed cover help.

Post by Angelique »

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and love it already.

I need help. I just bought a 2003 ZR5, all stock and am looking for a bed cover. I am having a little difficulty finding one that would fit with the rails that are on the bed. Anyone know of anywhere I can find them.

welcome  to the forum . You should be able to find a cover that fits inside the bed rails hereBED COVERS look for 1 thats low profile.I think the EXTANG RT is inside the rails list for $319.95 theres a few others on that site cheaper.

I put on a Truxedo bed cover and its great. Check out http://www.truxedo.com/ I believe a bunch of other guys on this board have them installed as well.

The best features are the ease of install (no drilling, no snaps), build in supports (no wood slats), and its lockable (if you get a tail gate lock). I have a "poplock" tail gate lock in mine.

Once I discovered how flimsy the bedrails were, I decided to donate them to a "worthy" cause.

If you like your rails then that is all that matters. I picked a vinyl trucktech cover from ebay for $99 after not locating ones that work with the rails.

And welcome to our humble, sometimes, uneventful forum. :D

I am a new guy but, there is a wealth of info assets here.

I really should get some pictures of my topper. I made it out of 2x4's, plywood, and high quality vinyl. It looks like a soft cover, but has the security and durability of a hard cover. I realize it sounds a bit white-trash, but it actually turned out VERY nice. I've gotten many compliments on it.

I ran a chain/clip to the hook points on each corner of the bed so it is secure. Now I just have to find time to install my power tailgate lock and I'll have a very large trunk. :)

I looked at the bed covers on the site and was wondering if anyone has the Lund, Downey Products or Extang covers and what they have to say about them.

I had an Extang cover on my old extended cab. It was the kind that hinged in the back so you could lift it at the tailgate, unsnap it, or pop the whole thing off in one piece. It was really awesome!!! It was about $300 but I loved it. My wife wouldn't let me spend that kind of money on another one, so kf6kmx gave me a good deal on his when he bought his tool box for his truck. :D Anyway, I would give Extang two thumbs up!!! :thumb: :thumb:

Thank you for all of the input. I just placed my order for the Extang RT and should be getting it any day after the Holiday weekend.
