Winch Installed

Post by Jigg »

Figured you guys might dig this.

I finally finished the winch install i've been working on for the past 3 months. I have close to 40 hours into this thing. I'm going to move the fairlead back a couple inches, since the license plate sticks out too far for my liking. But other than that, it's D-O-N-E

Specs

Winch: Ramsey REP 8000
Fairlead: HF Roller Fairlead
Cable: 100ft metal
Controller: Wired, for now
Mount Plate: Synergy Offroad (3/8" Plate)
Fairlead Mount: Chris Knaffle/Synergy Offroad
License Plate Mount: Synergy Offroad
Oil Filter Relocation: Summit SUM-G4985

Awesome Jigg! I don't suppose you're planning on selling kits for this on your website are ya? :) I'd buy in a heartbeat, as that's always how I've wanted my Winch mounted.

Thanks Walt!

To answer your question, yes and no. I'll probably sell the fairlead mount and winch mount (seperately). Mounting hardware, oil filter bracket, etc will be up to the customer to buy.

Post by mjmcdowell »

They should, got a picture of your console? If it looks like the one on this page, you're good to go:

Nice job, you now can rescue all the Ford and Dodges that get stuck. In reference to the CD holder I am very surprised no one makes a cover or an insert for it.

 Don't! We all overlook crap. I have one of his CD Deletes somewhere in the ordering process. I want to use it as a place to mount the switches for my off road lights mounted on my the roof cargo basket but, that is another story and I told Justin to take his time.

Sorry you're having such trouble with the lights man... it'll be worth it once you get 'em hooked up.

Thanks but, just a temporary setback

Am I slow to learn about the new Warn winch with the air compressor? That sounds cool to me.

Awesome winch mount there, Justin. I like that line of reasoning and keeping the stock bumper and valance. :thumb:

Jigg, what exactly will the winch mount consist of? Will this be something that will bolt on, or be welded? Or will brackets have to be fabbed to make it work?

Nope, it's all bolt on. There's a 3/8" steel plate that spans the two frame horns and is drilled out for 4 bolts on each side (skid plate holes and tow hook holes). It's drilled out for the winch footprint as well. I'll probably have them powdercoated too. The fairlead mounts will be drilled to mount to the winch plate and to position the fairlead right where the license plate is.

Maybe you could touch base with Chris to see if this could be combined with the receiver tubes he created?

It definitely can. You'd just need longer bolts, and you'll need to ditch the backer plates he sends with them.

Would the sides of the mounting plate be the backer plates then?

Wasn't sure if he would need to make the sides differently to incorporate the receivers.

Right, the winch mount that i build would act as your backer plate (the bolt goes up through the mount and into the receiver)

Thanks Reed... this is probably one of my favorite mods so far. It was by far the most challenging.

I'm going to be able to get Ramsey gear though my distributor, so i'll be buying a wireless controller for it, that way i can keep the air dam in tact.
