There are probably 20 threads concerning shocks. Try the following technique. GUIDE TO SEARCHING. (Some of the forum software is different but, it has helped me a lot.)

Reed

I would recommend Rancho's if you're on a really tight budget (I have them), but from what I've heard from Brule and Reed (HenryJ and f9k9)--and others--, the Bilstein's are more than worth the extra cost.

There really is a huge amount of information available on shocks here. Bilstein and Rancho are good subjects to search. Part numbers, best place to buy, etc. it is all there.

If you plan to keep your truck long term, Bilstein is a good investment. They are a lifetime shock absorber for most. The design will easily outlast others at least two to one. The ride is just nice and they perform really well on the rough stuff too.

Consensus on the Ranchos has been that they ride firmer and are less expensive.

If you only plan to keep your truck a few years a less expensive shock is all you need. Any shock will be a huge improvement over the stock ones.

I should've put the part about the firm ride in my first post. Yes, the Rancho's have a firm ride. They have turned out to be a bit too firm for my tastes. :)

They're a bit too firm for me. Especially on the rear of the truck.
