Camaro/Firebird/Corvette wheels

Post by NTXCrew »

OK, I used the search function, BUT..... all you owners of the above-mentioned wheels on your S-10 Crew Cabs or those of you who are backspacing and wheel-fitment brainiacs, how well do these wheels fit on our trucks? Front? Rear? Do you know the backspacing? And lastly, what the heck is offset and how does it differ from backspacing?

I'm still toying around with ideas and I'm still looking for 18's to 20's...

They bolt up to a 4x4 almost perfectly from what I have seen/heard. If I ever lift my Truck more, I'd like to go to a 16 or 17 inch rim, and there are a few styles of Camaro rim that I'd really like to use.

I'd think the ZR1 style 17 inch rims would look good. They're 17x9's I think. They should fit OK depending on the tire too.

Those are pretty affordable rims too...relatively speaking. There's tons of places that sell one-off's for a decent price. Pick up a Chevy High Performance magazine and you should find several places selling them. The bolt pattern on the F-Bodies is the same as ours, so ordering will be easy.

I have noticed the "cost-effective" side of this, too. Being 4x4 is actually turning out in my favor this time, as opposed to other mods since the 2wd guys have to run something like 2.5" spacers. Will I need spacers at all? Here's one example I found: Corvette Z06 reproduction 18"x9.5" with 7 3/8" backspacing.

That won't work for a stock off-road application. Ours are 6" BS and people have problems rubbing on their insides. I wouldn't go more than 6" BS. Look for a 16x7 with 5" BS. There are MANY options on off-road tire sizes available in 16". Fractions of an inch, instead of whole inch sizes like 15". Still sort of limited on tire choices at 17" and larger.

But if you are lowering for a sport truck application instead of raising, I have no idea of the low profile street choices out there, or rubbing with short sidewall tires.

My ZR1 style 16x8 wheels. I had to customize the center cap to fit over the front axel. 87 Monte Carlo SS caps.

I 've got an 03 crew with 18x9.5 Z06 vette rims, to me it looks great!!!
They are mounted on Toyo 255x50x18. It's a daily driven truck so I didn't want to go wit a lower profile 40 or 45. It doesn't touch the fenders at all. I 've added a Powerdyne sc to give it enough muscle to turn the tires. I put 1.5 spacers on the back to even out the wheel base so it looks all in line.

Those should work fine depending on the tires. If you get the 255/50-18's like snowsurfer, that's only a 28.x" diameter, so I don't think rubbing would be a problem...even rubbing on the frame inside at full lock turning. You could probably even go with a 275/50 and still be under the stock 29" diameter. Or if you like the low profile look, use a 275/40 which is under 27" diameter and drop the front and rear a couple inches.

I have 17x9 WS6 Trans am wheels with 265/70/17 All Terrains. They rub like a mofo. On a street truck they won't rub. For an off roader your choices are Mickey Thompson 31x10.5x17 bias Belteds or 265/65/17 Bfg Long trail t/a's. I will be selling mine with or without tires in March. PM me for details.
