another rear diff vent tube question

another rear diff vent tube question
i was changing my diff fluid today, and man im guessing none of the owners ever did it cuz it was gooey and black. yuck. but anyway i traced the vent tube over to the gap between the bed and cab. and it looks like someone before me cut the tube just short of were it usually would be and put a plug on the end of it. is this ok or should i take that plug off.

That is not a plug, it is actually a type of breather or vent. Relocate the vent under the rig elsewhere. Black is not bad for the fluid when compared to brown and foamy. Pay attention to what metal is there though.

ok will do, it was a little foamy, but not too bad. drained it all out hosed it down with brake parts cleaner and put a new gasket on. filled it up with plain ol 80w-90 supertech. i also replaced the pinion seal as well..

Clean that vent valve while you're under there. I zip tied a cloth over the intake to help reduce the dust intake.
Relocating that axle vent tube is critical. Sounds like yours is doing Ok.

I got about 8 feet or so of tube on mine. I have it running into the bed of the truck. That's prob overkill for most.

Dude!! Put snorkels on the exhaust and intake and maybe you could use it for a submarine. lol

I wish, believe me, I do find it at times. The last time I did back in May this year, the water was up the the top of the hood. I let it run too long, but it kept feeling like I started getting traction, ugh.F9K9 wrote:Paul can't find water that deep unless he drives to the beach!
The damage I found later was:
Busted through K&N air filter, MAF, Water in transfer case, rear transfer case seal, speedo sensor, mud on evac filter.
Mud holes kill me, I gotta remember to stay away from them or at least no be the first one in. Arrrggghhhh.
