4x4 buttons not working

Post by HCO4x4 »

i dont know what happened to my other thread but i checked everything youve told me to check. nothing loose or unplugged. i tried to ground pin 13 but the lights didnt flash. im about to try it again because i had a shitty ground. i also checked the cable and its in perfect shape. i could move it just by pulling it slightly. i also cleared all error codes with a trouble code reader but that didnt help.

if there is an error code will the module shut everything down?
thats what im thinking so i was going to buy a new TCCM.

if it was a bad TCM wouldnt i at least hear it trying to engage?

let me know if im wrong on my conclusions.

You ground pin 13 with a pin near it I cannot recall which one. Just use a paperclip is fine. Then turn the ignition to on and it will flash the codes. Just going out and replacing the TCCM isn't the best idea as it could just work temporarily till the problem happens again similar to just pulling the fuse. I pull the fuse on mine each time it messes up and errors. Labeled courtesy lamp in the fuse panel. It may not try to engage if it has come up with too many errors.

Maybe the switch itself is toast...

Also, any standard code reader will NOT be able to pull the trouble codes from the TCCM...

But in this case you don't need any fancy tools just your key and a paperclip to ground it and watch the lights flash to see which error you have received.

Do you have a 3 button or 4 button switch?

What year truck do you have? I don't believe you can check codes with a paper clip with OBDII. You must have a scanner.

Check the sticky at the top of the Stock Mechanical/Drivetrain, it will tell you how to check the transfercase codes, and yes, you can check the codes without ascanner.

ive tried everything in there. and if your referring to the paperclip in 13 and 4 or 5 i tried that too. i even stuck a ground wire from my amp in there to make sure it was a good ground. hasnt this happened to someone else before?

If you have a friend with a Blazer/S10/Jimmy/Sonoma, and a 3 button t-case switch that works... Try it.

Seems like I’ve missed beginning of the topic... What is the problem with switch buttons exactly? Because if they only doesn’t flash or blink I have similar problem for almost a year. My button’s lights died but transmission is switch to 4Hi and back – so I just live with it. A little discomfort and that’s it. Unfortunately I don’t know what to say if mods don’t switch either. :(
