new speakers

Post by top_sgt »

ok guys....this is for all you audiophiles.. car stereo buffs........... i'm looking to replace my factory head unit with a pioneer deh 4700 or a pioneer deh 4800 unit.
question.... to get some good bass... i want to add a bazooka bta6100. i listen to country mostly, with some occasional rock i.e.: kansas, journey, paul macartney, fleetwood mac........you get the idea. should i replace the factory speakers?? and with what??? or are there good quality speakers that i can get some bass out of, and not put in the bazooka???
all help and advice will be appreciated!!!
and in case this helps.....i can do all of the install!!!!

Hey Top! If you didn't already know, I got rid of the S-10 Crew Cab for a Silverado Crew Cab. I still have my small Rockford Fosgate amp and 2-8" sub woofers in a home-made box that will fit behind the back seat of your rig. That's without having to remove the jack also. I will sell them REAL cheap if you're interested! PM me!

Mr. Brown..aka UPS... will be delivering subs and amp tomorrow-monday!!!! wiring is already run!!! just a matter of hooking up...and cranking it up!!!!

as for the pioneer unit......i recommend it!!! ordered it from crutchfields!!monting kit, wiring kit, and antenna adapter came with it at no extra cost with free shipping. i could not buy the same unit and accessories locally for the same price!!

the unit comes with 3 RCA preouts!! i found out from pete at crutchfields that with 2 preouts,, the rear speaker loose some with the amp and sub on. with 3 preouts..i have front and rear preouts(if i want to and a amp later) and a seperate sub preout!!

the sound quality is a whole lot better now!!!! love it!!! :D

It has been a while. Good ol' "BROWN" screwed us over! They lost the darned package and made us wait weeks before they finally admitted to it. :x The whole thing was a nightmare. Although I must admit, I ended up coming out smelling like a rose. Brown's lost shipment insurance kicked in and I ended up getting more that way than what I was selling them for! Poor Top, on the other hand, came out with the short end of the stick. All he got out of it was a headache and his money tied up for weeks!!!! :!:

I hope he is still working on the project. I am anxious to see what he comes up with too!

ALRIGHT, TOP!!!! Glad to see that you're still working at it! I THINK that when I built my LOST box, I wired the positives together, then the negatives together so that I had just two wires coming out of the box.

Did you get an amp yet?

Sounds good so far! Good luck! I can't wait to see the pics! I gotta tell ya, I wish I would have purchased this Silverado I have. Since I'm only leasing, I can't do any mods and I sure do miss it! I wish I could have BOTH trucks! That would have been sweet. 8) You've heard of "The Man With One Red Shoe?" Well I would have been "The Man With Two Red CREWS!!!"

Here's a pic of my set up... I still wonder if I should have gone with two 10" subs instead of just one! It took some work, but I was able to squeeze the 10" back there! I've got an Alpine MP3/CD player in the dash... Sometime soon I'll be replacing the door and dash speakers.

i took the jack and stuff out, put it all in an old army tool bag that i carry a chain and tow strap in.
i'm going to mount the amp to the jack bracket with some aluminum stock that i have. haven't figured out just how yet,,,,still drafting up ideas!!!

BUT.......i do love the sound of the 2--8" subs!!!!!!! :D
glad i did it!!!!!!! :thumb:
