Cargo Light

Post by ace »

Does anybody have one or does any company make one for our trucks? I was driving my parents Colorado and it had one. Nice for loading stuff in the dark.

Look for 2bunik's solution. He added bed lights.

Where's the link to see how you did it?
My third brake light (on the back of the cab above the sliding rear window) has been warped from the heat of the light itself. I was about to replace it, but have missed having a cargo light back there (as I had on my 86 GMC full-size). I'd love to make an improvement rather than merely a fix.

Thanks.
I can read the thread, but no pics are showing. Also, the pics on the links are evidently no longer there. I'd love to see what he's talking about.

I think what you are wanting to do is change your third brake light into a cargo light? I have never seen a thread on that. My 87 s-10 had that cargo light and I wish our CC's were the same. I haven't herd of anyone having problems with that lense melting. I did have a problem with it leaking when I washed my truck or it rained. The Dealer took care of that under warranty, no problems since. Hope you figure something out as I eventually wan't to do some type of cargo light mod. But right now I have other mods that are more pressing!

Angelfire is roadblocking linked images. Try copy and pasting these url's from that thread-

Thanks, that worked on seeing the pics.

I like the simple idea. But I'd love to figure out a way to combine a cargo lamp with the high brake light. It's probably pie in the sky. Nevertheless, I've got to replace the melted oem lense on my cc.

Update...
I've checked online with aftermarketers, and I have not found any third brake/bed light combo replacements for my warped original. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to see 'em.
This is kind of interesting...I have found several replacement OEM lights at salvage yards. MOST WERE WARPED LIKE MINE from the heat produced by the light. Can you say, "design flaw"? I'm sure there's no chance of a recall on something like this (since it is not safety related), or is there? I noticed the warping when I had to replace a burned-out bulb. My truck has 40,000 miles on it. If this is a normal deal and third brake lights are burning out and not working all over the country...I don't know, again, probably pie in the sky.

I just got to working on my bed light a little more yesterday.. apparantly the cheap push button I installed (in one pic its a white spec above the tailgate latch) Got weathered out.. So I installed a better button where the old one was.. Other than that I love having the bed light It really works very nice.. I am considering however installing another on the other side. I noticed that when i carry something in the bed only the left side is lit up because (obviously( the light is on the left side.. Oh and as far as what kind of light it is.. I hope this pic works Image
I suggest looking throught the website under LIGHTING PRODUCTS for a differant type of light if you dont like MY STYLE : ) I bought mine at walmart in the TRAILER LIGHTING section..
I hope this helps
if not it is here
