I'm looking for a sub box to complete my system. When I emailed MTX to see if they would have anything with in the 6 months... this was their response.

I have two tens in my truck and it sounds real nice. I didnt even have to mod the seat or nothing. it locks perfectly and all. If you want mesurements let me know ..... and I will hook you up... I also still have the jack and a 400 watt amp. I do have alot of 45 degree angles on it and the subs sit a little weird I also have 1/4 inch thick MDF on the back side. But hey it hits hard and I am really happy .. I also had to cut the carpet out behind the back seat( only where the box will sit.. beacause that 1/4 of an inch makes a differance of whether the seat will lock or not. and on top of that I had to cut three grooves on the bottom of the sub box. (because there are three ridges on the floor board once you remove the carpet. they are also 1/4 inch high. so now the ridges on the truck slide into the grooves of the box. so the box dont slide side to side.) there was a total of 1/2 inch gained.. trust me it matters. the 1/4 thick mdf on back is so the magnet will fit. I f you dont care about cutting into the plastic behind the seat. you can get alot more room for the box. But I didnt cut anything cause you never know when you have to pul it out and it will look like crap. I can give exact mesurments if anyone wants them.. It took me two days to build. But I love it.
THE BEST PART ABOUT IT IS WHEN PEOPLE ASK WHAT I GOT IN MY TRUCK. I TELL THEM I GOT TWO TENS AND THEY DONT BELEIVE ME. SECOND QUESTION IS WHERE? "BEHIND THE BACK SEAT" I LOVE IT ....

The Q logic 1/2 box fits, its really tight, but it fits. I had a 10" pioneer IMPP in it and it hit ok, nothing fancy, just added a little bass. I did remove the plastic behind the rear seat, under the window. Its real easy to remove, pop it off from the bottom, then lift up on it. The important part is to lift up after you popped all the clips, if you dont, you will break it. I am speaking from experience. STUPID PLASTIC . You will also have to remove the E clips and white spacers on the seat back to get it to latch, like I said its really tight and your going to have to slam the seat into place. I shimmed the bottom of the seat foward about a 1/2 inch just to make it a little easier to get the seat to latch. If you decicde to go with a high excursion sub, it will sound like (poopy) because it rubs on the seat. Once again speaking from experience. STUPID HIGH EXCURSION . I just havent gotten out there to fix this problem. Its kinda cold now. Hope this helps some of you. The box is about 60 to 70 bucks at best buy or circuit city.
yea its 1/2 cu foot maybe a .65cu foot. its a small box from Q logic. It will fit on the drivers side of the truck behind the rear seat. I didnt get up early enough to "customize" my carpet so Ill do it tomorrow. And as I have learned today, make sure your sub is properly sealed in the box. Double sided foam sticky tape works great.
surfing the web today I found a 8" sub that I know will fit w/ a mtx truck box. its at www.ikesound.com. look there for all your other stereo needs. the sub is an audiobahn for like 65 bucks.

I have 2 jl audio w6 - 8's behind the back seat in a sealed box with a autotec 500 watt amp, all i did was remove the plastic below the window and the box fits perfect and no problem getting the seat to latch or unlatch, and must say that my 2 8's will hit just as good as 2 10's on any given day just cause i spent a little more money for a better set of 8's that will fit and sound good rather than fighting to fit a single 10, but i am selling these speakers and box, going all out with the new system by going with 4- 12's or 4- 15's so if anyone interested email me

I've ordered several items from Ikesound.com -- never had an issue with them at all.
One thing to keep in mind -- when you are looking at a brand on their website and it says that They are not an authorized dealer for that brand -- they mean it. that means that if you ever have a warrany issue with that product, you may be SOL because a receipt from a dealer that is not officially in the manufacturer's auth. dealer list. then you may not be able to get it warranteed.

Well, I finally got tired of the lack of bass in the truck and installed my amp/sub setup from my old car. Heck, I don't care if the hatch-style box is sitting in my back seat until I get a box built - it's garaged anyways and I can always unplug it.
I've been in communication with a company out of Marshall, TX called The Woodshop (http://www.the-woodshop.com) and they said they had several options available. I need to call them now.
Anyways, I still had my MonsterCable amp install wiring kit and interconnects, so Thursday night I just "up and decided" to do it. That's all I've been doing now. It just gives you a great feeling to have your dash all apart, your center console out (just in case), running stuff through the firewall, and be able to put all back without extra screws left (YES! YES! YES!) AND everything work!!! Yippie Skippy! And the wife just shakes her head and sighs....

Those are sweet. MTX makes great stuff. I used to be into sound allot back like 17 years ago. Had Crutchfield amp, Clarion receiver, home made cross-overs. MTX tweaters, kicker subwoofers, pyle drivers. I was rock'n!

Matt, could you do a step by step on how you got your 10" Q-Logic truck box to fit. I went ahead an bought it. The Woodshop had mis-understood me (they just heard S-10), but said they could still do a custom box for around $100 and maybe even $75 if it turned out to be less material. Thanks.

About the speaker box...was it custom made for your truck or is this something that you can buy from Crutchfield or someplace like that? What size speakers are in it? 10's or 12's?

just from experience -- the 1 Bazooka 10" tube I have in my Blazer is loud as most people ever need -- and I am an ex-stereo shop installer and had 6 12's in my last SUV --
1 10 is plenty for good clean tight bass
And MTX makes great gear.

A 6000 series MTX is a fine quality woofer. The 8000's were their premium line -- replaced just this year with the 9500 series but the 8000's are still in production too. Looking at the pic on the site from Crutchfield you couldnt tell if it was a 6000 or an 8000 -- the magnet structure is different, but you can't see that from looking at the speaker's front really.
6000 Series
8000 Series
Now --the 8000 actually has the same mounting depth as the 6000, the 8000's magnet is bigger around but no deeper. So if you wanted to mod your thunderform, I would assume the 8000 would be the best choice.
And wattage is something a speaker handles, not something it has. It's like saying a rear end has 450 horsepower. It may be rated to handle 450 HP, but it doesn't have anything at all. It's a capacity. That and you can blow a speaker with 1 watt of pure distortion if done right. Add in efficiency ratings and such and watt raings really are inconsequential.
But the 6000 series is rated at 250 watts RMS (continuous) power handling with a peak of 500watts.
The 9500 series are their premium new line of performance woofers -- and have huge magnet structures -- and a 9.5 inch mounting depth -- no way you'd ever fit a 9500 behind your rear seat.

well - I have my 4 12's and ready to start building my box for them which I plan on doing this weekend and running about 1800 rms to them which should turn out to be pretty loud, a buddy that works at devine sounds ( a stereo shop here in tampa that is ranked DB drag ) is designing my box and all I have to do is cut the wood and piece it together - shouldn't be that hard plus I just got my camera to mount and use as a back up camera so i dont run anyone over at walamart- dang people should know that a big truck will always win when playing chicken- some people dont learn

I have one 10" MTXAudio Thunder 6000. It kicks tail, and, honestly, I'm underpowering it (about 200w). By the way, the 8000's have more ribs on the front of the cones (12 vs. 8 I think).

ok just did a quick install of the mtx custom box sound great allot better then my 2 8's ,i am running with a kenwood amp pushing 300X1 rms a little more then suppose to its saids the speaker should have 250rms ,sounds good up to about 75% vol. then it looks like the speaker comes out far enought to hit the seat since it sounds great in side and out below 75% im not in a big hurry to lift my seat ,but it looks like it only needs to be lifted about a 1/4 inch to make the sub happy.but for $254 for the box and the sub well worth it i got an open box retail is 299,crutchfield has free shipping on orders above 199 and if you haven't ordered from crutchfield before let me know i can give you a referal number and you get $20 off 1st order and they give me a credit to,you can email me at info@jeepsnstuff.com

after a long sleepless night of me, a piece of paper, tape measure and a calculator, I think I have a damn good idea for a box. Fabrication will start this weekend, I will have as many pics as I can posted. Good by 5 seater, hello 2 seater. I plan on pulling out the back seat and rebuilding it with 2 to 4 10" Diamonds in the center part. The best part is that I will still be able to drive people around and go deaf. If your ears dont ring when you get out of the truck. Its just not loud enough.

They make a customer dual 8" sub enclosure for CREW CABs!!!! Mine's on it's way now. You have only 4" of mounting depth to work with, but a pair of Kicker CompVR 8"s or RF HE 8"s work great. Oh, and the box is less that $100 shipped.

and since it's being shipped by UPS (affecionately known as "gorillas in Brown shirts") you will also get to see if the box itself is cracked up....wamason wrote:Got the UPS tracking number yesterday. My Box will be here Monday, and then we'll see if it's all it's cracked up to be
Sorry -- I've had issues with UPS in the past.
Boy I'm full of angst towards companies lately aren't I -- I'm really not a negative person normally.

Just got my box, it's a little different from the one in the pic, mainly because it doesn't fill the space in the bottom right corner of the truck, but it still looks fairly nice. The build quality is good, much better than I expected. I have a pair of CompVR 8"s on the way, I'll let you guys know how everything sounds

does anyone know if this one fits as well, i like the idea of 10's as opposed to 8's?quickbiker wrote:Which one? How bout this one: http://www.soundoffaudio.com/item.cfm/id/794

If you are going to use Comp VRs .3 per sub would work pretty well depending on the type of music that you listen to. .3 per will give you a qtc of about .95 to 1.0...that is very good for power. A bigger box will give you better bottom end at the expense of power handling...If you amp has a bass boost built in they should sound pretty good. I had one VR 8 on a 400.1 and it worked really good. I have sence Cut my back bench and turned it into buckets and stacked to L7 8s between the seats fireing forward and run them on a 650.1 SX...What ever you do it should sound really great

I just finished building a box for my truck, but I wount fit behind the back seat - In an earlier post I said I was going for 4 12's well I did and they are in the bed and have cut throughs into the cab. and they get down, 4 MA Audio 12's and 1800 rms MA amp, but still need more power, but still sounds good and clean. but cant no longer haul anything in the bed, the box is 12 cu ft.

well its a few weeks later and we fineally got a box built, so much for the kicker vr's. Into 4 solo baric L7's. Some ungodly size box, something like 7cu ft. or something. 3000 watts of power. Its just sick. Ill get some pics up real soon. I guess that we would be farther along if I wasnt working with a perfectionist, but I know it will sound very good. No more back seat either, I didnt like it anyway, I had to drive people around with it. Cheap people. Leave the biggest drunk in charge of driving everyone home. Never got gas money either. So much for them, less miles on my truck now anyway. I see this as a win win situation.
well now its 3 35 am and I just got home from the stereo shop. WOW is all I am going to say. My subs hit so hard that it hurts to even be standing next to the truck. definitely recommend the L7's from solo baric. Its just an ungodly amount of sound and air movement. If anyone is in the chicagoland area definatly check out the guys that did my stereo. Great bunch of guys, and they will hook you up if you tell them that I sent you. Pics will be posted tomorrow when its light outside. Check out the guys at Custom Audio & Alarms. 2076 South Elmhurst Road, Mt. Prospect Illinois 60056. The phone number is 1 847 956 0102. And like I said, just let them know that Matt send you and you read about it on the internet, and I know that they will hook you up. Thanks a lot guys.

I end of being the one to drive everyone also. Seems that Jeep ppl always take their rear seat out, so I am left as the ppl mover. You gave me an idea!Matt wrote:well its a few weeks later and we fineally got a box built, so much for the kicker vr's. Into 4 solo baric L7's. well here it is, its kind of a bad shot, its hard to get a good shot of the backseat when your new speaker box takes up the whole thing. pic is at http://www.s-10crewcab.com/coppermine/d ... p?pos=-309
I hope that you like it, I know that I do. And we will all find out may 2nd how loud it really is. I know its in the 150's db. I hope to see some of you at Custom Car & Audio for the show.
