If you get a shift kit, get the one made by Transgo. There are other shift kits out there, but they're not nearly as good. You can still change the shift points with the programmer, but make sure you don't use the increased line pressure option with a shift kit. The programmer should ask you if you ...

but they also puts the 4l60e behind the LS1  That's true, but the LS1's are even better at destroying these trannys than the LT1's or older 350's. V-8 torque seems to be the main killer of these trannys which is why most S10 owners are not having the same problems. I still believe that the Tr...

As far as reliability and strength the best GM trannys in order are the 4L80E, TH400, 4L65E, TH350, (4L60, 4L60E, 700R4 all the same), and the 200R4. The 4L60E is not a bad tranny, but it does have some weak points that are prone to failure. A good heavy duty rebuild makes this tranny much better an...

I just got my PA 2" body lift and some 31X10.5/15 Pro Comp MT tires. I'm going to be putting them on my stock rims. I plan on doing a 1" t-bar crank also. Do I need lift shackles or add a leafs in the back to clear these tires? I want to do this right the first time without any issues, so any commen...

2" Body Lift Vs. 2" Suspension Lift?
Hey everyone I'm going to be getting some new rims and 31X10.5/15 tires and I need to do the 2" lift. So now I would like to get some opinions about which way is better as far as getting the 2" of extra lift. I plan on getting some accessories as well so the lift would need to work with these parts ...

I just recently put on a Summit aluminum differential cover with the bearing cap preload bolts and it also had the oiling holes blocked. What I did to correct this problem was put the gasket on the rear end with the cover off and lined up all 10 of the cover holes and pressed lightly on the gasket o...

the 4l65e would be a direct drop in if you had a two wheel drive truck. With a foru wheel drive you nedd to change the output shaft in the tail section of the transmission. This requires a complete tear down of the transmission as this is the first piece to go in and the last piece to come out in a...

Wrong Differential Gasket And Cover ?
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but I'll mention it anyway. GM has been installing the wrong differential cover gasket on all 10 bolt rear ends for at least 10 years now. I just put on a new Summit aluminum rear end cover with bearing cap preload bolts last night and noticed that the...

Is the 4L65E a completely drop in or is there mods to the electronics or other? The only thing that you should have to do is swap the wiring harness from your tranny to the 4L65E. This might sound hard, but it isn't, it should only take about 30 minutes or so. The 4L65E was originally developed for...

First of all the 4L60E trannys are not strong at all, and are prone to failures especially behind V-8's. A good upgrade would be the 4L65E tranny from GM Goodwrench. This tranny has the same case, but much improved internal components allowing it to have a 400 ft. pound rating. The only problem I've...

Did you notice a big difference after installing the PPIII and changing the shift points? I installed a PPIII on my 96 Impala SS and could feel the difference in power, but playing with the shift points didn't seem to change anything much. I'm also wondering which part of changing the gears is a PIT...

Gear Upgrades?
I want to replace my stock 3.73 gears with 4.10's. My question is do I need to change gears in the front as well for the 4 wheel drive to work. I know on solid axle trucks you do have to match the front gears with the rear ones to work correctly, but I've never dealt with IFS systems. I'm sure someo...

Powerdyne TB Spacer = 20hp ?
Powerdyne advertises that their TB spacer for our 4.3L engine will add 20 extra horsepower. Has anybody out there tried one of these? 20 horsepower is a lot for such a simple part. I'm kind of sceptical, but if it's true then I think it would be worth the $90. I've heard some negative feedback about...

My 2001 has only 22,000 miles and is on its 2nd. power steering pump, which is also starting to give me problems.
