Oh, the possibilities seem endless! How does the locator system work? I am under the impression that one way transmissions are prohibited except for control of model aircraft, and the like? You are right and wrong  The ones in regard to the R/C are the 'un identfied' transmision (no callsign ...

it sounds like fun.. kinda cool if you ask me.. I bet you don't have to pay for service either? :D Nope. In fact its illegal to be paid for use of the ham bands.. (there are ways of being reimbursed for some services, but no direct payment). They made that ruling to prevent it from ending up a char...

what is HAM ... I didnt remember where the 'ham' part got tied to it, but its an 'Amateur Radio Operator'.. So you got me looking on the 'net... :) "Ham: a poor operator. A 'plug.'" That's the definition of the word given in G. M. Dodge's The Telegraph Instructor even before radio. The defin...

Not quite through the second chapter of the book yet. This looks quite a bit like a "prehistoric internet" , only you are your ISP. It may just be my perception at this point since I am studying the data transmission portion, but it almost seems like a step backward. It is a little compared to the ...

Re: Storage/Tool Box

Looking for a Storage/Tool box to store supplies for trips and off roading. I have ZR5 package and it obviously has bars on the bed. Any ideas where to find them on line and do they make them that do not sit on top off the walls of the bed? Do you have a Lowe's in your area? The one about 20miles f...

It all made me start to think about emergency situations. I really do not give much thought to a 2000' climb to get cell service but, 2000' might seem like 20 miles if I am injured. Thats pretty much where my thoughts are about it and using the extender mode of my truck radio. A long hike/climb can...

Re: Ham Radio

Thought I'd better start a topic to get some more tips :D Any good suggestions for memorizing frequencies and permissible activities within them? Is there a pneumonic or rhyme that works well to remember them all? This really intrigues me since it follows the theme of this forum so closely. The fre...

Oh, yeah what about having a radio sitting on the bench with direct contact to me for advice , or criticism during your body lift this spring? No phone bill, and probably a quicker response than you would get here ;) BTW- After a little studying I am getting better now up to 65.7 percent and ...

My spare is metric sized, but equivalent to 31" It fits snug with the hitch, but it does fit. A friend with a fullsize 4x4 came up with an interesting method to mount an oversize spare in the stock location... he deflates it.. he said it gets him a little extra clearance as the tire shrinks a littl...

Works on my '01, and it also worked on my '00 Sonoma X-cab. Yeah, it seems weird.. It acts like its standard on all the GM trucks now, and started working in '00, but I have told a lot of friends locally with '00 to '02 S10 and fullsize about it, and about 1 or 2 out of 8 it didnt work.. I think it...

Press and release a few times in quick succession and you'll hear a chime to indicate that the lights have been switched to manual. to turn auto on lights back on do the same again. Whcih year t...

I'm thinking that the hand held and repeater mobile in the truck would be a really good way to have communications in some of the deep canyons. That long and lat is at the base of a cliff in a deep canyon. I think it would be pretty awesome to have that kind of communications capability. I love it....
