On the right track. The only other thing I can think of that might be tried would be a dealer performed nitrogen purge. Basically cycling the system under air pressure with a cleaning agent added to clean the poppets. I suspect it would be a temporary fix at best with the mileage you have. Best mone...

It is not too bad, however it has been long enough that the axle shaft may be a real fight to get out of the wheel bearing. A puller and some cuss'n may be involved. Get ready for ball joints and wheel bearings as those may need to be replaced too if you find them bad.

I installed a center link from a Blazer that had the hole in it for the stock stabilizer. Then just used that stabilizer. Others have used the Rancho aftermarket one with the U-bolt clamps.

Old mudbogger's trick: Soak down the cap, wires and coil with cheap hairspray. This creates a nice antistatic seal for them. Be sure to use cheap hairspray...if your wife catches you with her expensive stuff there is hell to pay. Don't ask how I know :oops:

BTW, did you try swapping the plug and wire to rule out ignition? I think you did plugs so that is probably already the case ?

Oh, the bolts. Torque is very small at 15 inlb for the upper intake, IIRC. I think they recommend new bolts since any defects in the threads might make them difficult to thread and not get them tight? Your choice, I have gone both ways with and without new ones.

You don't have to phase these like the V-8. Ours is locked. As long as you get it set on number one correctly, bolt it down and you are in time :) easy-peasy.

I think you are spot on...Intake gaskets. Don't forget to check the cat. If it is plugging from ingesting the oil and water it might be on the way out. Check the rearspacing. Front and rear may be different by a large margin. Keep in mind that these were rear wheel drive and may have lots less rear spacing in addition to the width being greater. Sorry. Aftermarket leaves lots of room for error. Grab a multimeter and see if it is getting power in the accessory position. No easy answer, you are going to have to investigate further.

You should not be able to manually engage it without moving a little to line up the splines. That is where the vacuum actuator shines. It applies gentle pressure until it engages. Engage before you need it. If you can't roll the front axle, it may not engage. Ask the guy who backed off the pavement ...

I think it is the quick way to move to your next rig. Most that have done it don't last long. They sell the rig and get something else.
Superlift is a good lift, but going SFA is nearly the same price and more robust.

You can try removing both up stream O2 sensors and see if the relief in back pressure helps it run better. If it does then the cat needs repair. I broomsticked / gutted mine. Bad cat will not set the CEL / MIL. A temp gun would be helpful to diagnose that. You should see about 100+ after the cat.

Gas smell might indicate injector line or fuel line leaks. Again gas mileage is usually in the dumper. I am going with a wild card here and having you check the battery cable connections. Make sure they are tight. Not just the bolts, the cables. Clean and tight. The bolts can bottom in the holes and...

You say it has been hot. Has the engine been heating up too?
Has the gas mileage been worse than usual?
Ever smell rotten eggs?
Does it run very quiet?

The backfire and fact that it usually starts after stopping , add the heat and I am thinking a plugged cat. Symptoms you listed add up.

Stick with stock rear spacing on the back. 1.25" on the front to match up. Skidz cuts will help clear if you don't do a body lift. I am pro body lift on these trucks. Too many advantages to rule it out.

I ran with the tow / haul mode and a BCM that was not VIN matched. Beware that once you do it it will set the MIL and there is no going back after a while. Even the stock BCM will no longer satisfy the error condition. That is where you must have a TechII to correct the VIN mismatch.

VIN matching would be done by a dealership. I have no experience with that. Without it the MIL will be illuminated. The one I have is the stock one. No tow-haul.

Nope. Your alignment will be fine. It will not change anything more than changing a wheel might. All spacers do is change the rearspacing of the wheel.

I am not optimistic on the odds of finding just the pad though. If replacing the bar is not in the cards, maybe fab a piece of diamond plate and attach it? That might mean replacing them all with the new custom pad?

Both seem to be voltage related codes. How's the battery, connections, alternator, etc. ? Even though connections may be tight the bolt can bottom in the battery and still leave the cable loose. Check carefully.

IMO, the stock converter is pretty good. I believe it is desirable as a performance model for other applications (racing stall). What makes you think yours is failing?

If I recall correctly your only struggle will be figuring out the VSS sensors. I think we worked that out though.
