Re: Rear end interchange

If you still have the differential open, count the teeth on the pinion. There should be 41 on the ring gear and 10, 11, or 12 on the pinion.
12 teeth is 3.42 - 41/12=3.416666
11 teeth is 3.73 - 41/11=3.727272
10 teeth is 4.10 - 41/10=4.100000

I would take the plastic shroud off and check the area between the radiator and the AC coils, suck the bugs out with a vacuum cleaner, wash or blow it out. It might not help but it sure can't hurt.

Some people never look between there.

Re: Code Reader for the NP236/246 Transfer Case

Sorry,

It's a 2006 Silverado 1500 Automatic with the 246 (4 button) transfer case.

Code Reader for the NP236/246 Transfer Case

Does anyone know of a scanner or computer based software like AutoTap that will read the DTC,s on the automatic (4 button) transfer case. The 1500 Silverado work truck I drive keeps giving a "Service 4WD" message. I am reasonably certain it is a loose or weak wiring connection as it only happens on ...

Re: Broken U-Joint

I'm just guessing you could have the yoke replaced but with it being aluminum, some of the shops may not be able to do it. Brule would know a lot more about that than me. As far as I'm concerned, the steel driveshaft was money well spent. http://www.bvd.cc/ This is where I got mine built. It's about...

Re: Broken U-Joint

With the Crew having an aluminum driveshaft, there is a chance that the aluminum yoke will not hold the new u-joint cap for very long. I had a new steel driveshaft made for my wife's 2001 and solved the problem on her truck.

Re: Where is my transmission fluid going??????

My Wife's truck she uses on the mail route was doing the same thing several years ago. I found that the vent tube you see on top of this transmission http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f236/JaVeRo/100_0488.jpg was stopped up. (This transmission is out of a different truck) I replaced it with a longer...

Re: Towing a 2001 S-10 Crew................

The way I understand it (and my wife says I'm usually wrong) the NP231 transfer case that I had in a 91 S10 with the manual shifter instead of the buttons could be put in neutral and was good to go being towed. The NP 236 transfer case with the 4 button control could be put in neutral by pushing a 2...

None that relate to the bushings

The truck has 180k miles on it running a mail route. It's about to fall apart.

But the A-arm bushings are still good.

Re: Odd Thumping coming from the left front *solved

I have had good service from the Energy Suspension bushings on the lower control arm. The uppers do not (or did not) come with sleeves so I had to reuse the old sleeves and that didn't work out so well. The sleeve would slip about an eighth inch on the bushing. I now have the moog thermoplastic on t...

Is this for the right rear door or the left rear door? Does it include the track between the power window and the little window?

Re: Door Locks

The first one I cut was on my 2006 Silverado work truck. I cut the tan return wire before it spliced into a black ground. On the S10, that splice was farther up the steering column so I cut the green wire before the key sensor switch. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f236/JaVeRo/1299779318.jpg I cu...

If Brule is correct, and he usually is, I can tell you which wire to cut to disable the "key-in" sensor. I did it just to get rid of the #$%@$ chime. I just can't do it today, (supposed to be working).

Thanks,

I sure would have been mad (at myself) if I had swapped it to the work truck only to find that out later.

XM Radio

A few months ago I bought a 2006 Silverado that has an XM Radio paid up until this month. It's one of those thing that I never wanted because I never had it. Now I am considering it. I bought this truck for the weekends to pull the travel trailer, boat, gooseneck or whatever. The problem is, I won't...

Re: Non-CC Spool Locker

Just curious, Have you tried tire chains? I would think chains would be a better improvement than a spool up front. The spool in front may change your handling. Once you get used to it, there shouldn't be a problem as long as YOU are on it. Personally I wouldn't, I would rather my rear diff was sele...

RPO Decoder by VIN

I found this on another website. I thought some here might find it useful.
I had to cut and paste it to Excel just to get it to print. Now I have a list of the RPO codes with a description that I keep in the repair/maintenance log book.

Re: Avalanche help!

Brule, I noticed in one of the pictures that your Avalanche has the factory 7 pin RV trailer plug. I replaced mine with one made by Hopkins (40955) that has the 4way flat connector beside the 7 pin port. It plugs in, no splicing. Just drill 4 holes for the screws and throw the supplied bracket in th...

Re: Program remote for multiple vehicles

I found out at 5:18 this morning that if you accidentally hit the panic button while getting dressed that you will have horns in stereo. Luckily when I hit the button again, both went off. The farthest truck was under the boat shed about a 100 feet away and I was in the house. I got to wondering wha...
