Could be the fuel injection spider assembly under the intake manifold. There is an upgrade from CPI to MPI. I had a similar problem on my old 01 CC and when the spider assembly was upgraded by GM it ran much better and gained a little better gas mileage.

Yes, worn out 4wd front bearings can make a roaring noise when they start going out. It is usually most noticeable when turning. I've had good luck with Timken brand front wheel bearings purchased from Summit Racing.

Since you have a V8 now, I highly recommend installing a Transgo shift kit for the 4L60E. It takes 3-6 hrs to install, but is well worth it if you want that V6 calibrated transmission to last very long.

Your problem sounds exactly the same as one I had with my 01 CC and the fix was a new encoder motor. It's possible that it is something else, but I have to agree with everyone else's suggestion to replace the encoder motor first.

Check the rubber seal on your drain plug since that can also cause a leak, but if you do have to fix the threads, HenryJ's suggestion is the best unless you want to drop the pan and recut the threads to a larger size.

Run the 87 octane tune, make sure your tire size is dead on, and firm up the shifts to your liking. That's about all you can do with the HPPIII to try and improve gas mileage. In reality you probably won't gain more than 1-2 mpg.

They are known to fail sometimes resulting in HVAC damage because of the fluid contamination. Yours appears to be seized which I have seen on older models. Get a new updated switch in there before you end up with more problems!

The fuel filter is always a good idea. Make sure you have spark! Coils do occasionally go bad as do distributors. You said your battery died and then you replaced it. Make sure it wasn't your alternator that killed it.
