The leak is interior, not exterior. Fluid is sucked into the HVAC system destroying the slaves and controls. $1800 in repairs for a $20 switch failing. Read the transfercase switch thread for more.

Crawl underneath and check the "triple hose" connected to the transfercase switch. That is where the fluid will be coming from. The blower motor resistors are not terribly expensive. I don't think I need new parts as they both operate flawlessly. That said, I do recall a reload that did not fire. It might have been a primer strike that was light? The way I see it having a few extra parts might be a good thing. I cleaned up the sear on my SKS and really improved the trigger feel....

I would use something that acts as a lubricant if anything at all. Some are solvent/penetrants. Those in your area will know better than I. My high desert climate is friendly to the cables and not an issue for me. Your salt and moisture is a game changer.

It is always a good idea to pull the battery cables when working on electrical systems. Ditch the quad tip plugs. Too much flame shadow. Swap plugs to the Autolite irridium XP and check the coil for leakage. Try the hairspray trick on the wires, cap, and coil.

Might be worth dropping the front diff to do the job? If it is a rear main you would need to pull the transmission and transfercase. Usually the leaky injector will mean a rich start problem. Check valve in the fuel pump will have the plugs read clean.

Go back to thinking fuel pump, or maybe injectors?
Do the fuel system checks to determine what and where.
I suspect either a bad check valve in the fuel pump, or stuck poppets and a leaking injector. The tests will tell the tale.

For street duty I run a full synthetic and use extended change intervals. For offroading and conditions that may contaminate the oil quickly , I use Rotella 15/40. Motorcycles all get Rotella too. HenryJ gets Castrol 20/50.

Totally forgot about the relay on the firewall that the auto-trac vehicles have. Crew cabs don't have that. I think the change to the electric shift front axle eliminated some of the more problematic vacuum system components.

Easy fix. Common failure point. Cut to the chase and replace the transfercase motor (encoder). Expensive, yes. No loss of fluid is involved. First thing that came to mind is condensation from the air conditioning. That shows up as a puddle at the passenger side below the dehydrator. Next is the drain for the cowl. I don't recall, but there may be separate sensors for the oil pressure and fuel pump cut-off. I would have to dig into the books that I let go to find out though
